nowing full well that the series is heavily scripted, Ranveer Singh’s energy in the Netflix interactive special Ranveer vs The Wild is a bowl full of casual entertainment with Bear Grylls serving as his guide through the wilderness.
From Singh showing off his tiny vanity mirror or cuddling Grylls while he professes his love for his wife, Deepika, to grabbing one of the rarest flowers on planet earth, the viewers are in for an easy-going and entertaining ride. Singh is a self-proclaimed ‘hopeless romantic,’ embarking on a journey into the wild to find the rarest flower to ever exist – the Serbian Ramonda,. Of course, the flower is meant for his wife, so he has to settle for cuddling with Grylls in her absence. If Deepika had appeared at the end of the show to acknowledge Ranveer’s tireless efforts in getting the flower, the plot would have completely changed. Fans are left wondering if it was a waste like Grylls predicted.
The trouble is that the entire 90-minute adventure offers viewers only 4-5 instances of adventure. Beyond that, it is a fun and easy watch, which features several doses of drama, comedy and Ranveer Singh’s trademark energy.
The one episode docu-adventure also speaks of values such as ‘not giving up’, and ‘taking up a challenge’. There might not be much to keep one sitting for 90 minutes straight, but watching it for Ranveer Singh is always a good time.
The visuals are stunning, but that’s the least one can expect from a jungle-based reality show. The show has a surprise visit from Ranveer’s friend, Karan Kapadia, who also brings in a motivational message from Deepika. Critics may view this as a pilot project from Netflix, hoping that if this succeeds, there will be other stars in similar adventure-induced interactive specials. Ranveer vs The Wild gets a 10/10 for the effort to come up with something interactive.
This interactive choose-your-own-path production might motivate some to go on an adventure trip themselves. The one episode docu-adventure also speaks of values such as ‘not giving up’ and ‘taking up a challenge’. There might not be much to keep one sitting for 90 minutes straight, but watching it for Ranveer Singh is always a good time. And because Ranveer Singh is Ranveer Singh on camera, many of Singh’s one-liners cause laughing fits.
For viewers looking for some light-hearted comedy and easygoing acting, Ranveer vs The Wild is an easy watching gem - highly recommended, especially if they are looking to break away from the drearier options on the platform.
