ince Sarwat Gilani broke absolutely zero rules while on the red carpet at Cannes, we will break one on her behalf, and put our big conclusion ahead of the preamble: the delicately pretty star chose flattering outfits for all her appearances, never too boring, but definitely not controversial. And while we are literally for all things fashion and style, we appreciate a woman who knows her audience. Thank you for coming to our Ted talk.

While Sarwat and her Joyland costars and crew celebrated their successful Cannes reception, we noticed her smart style strategy, and this Sania Maskatiya dress in particular. It’s well-constructed, feminine, but still very professional, and she absolutely glows in white, which to be very frank, is so rare. We need to call her for tips as soon as she is back!

The lime Elan set is nice. It is safe. It is Pakistan’s national dress and at the same time, it is red-carpet-worthy. Sarwat Gilani also spoke passionately about her patriotism while she was in this outfit, on her Instagram. We’re just getting closer to cracking this strategy of hers.

We did love these Umar Sayeed pants. It’s always beautiful when Eastern fabrics and embellishment are written into Western silhouettes. Sayeed’s aesthetic has always been simply luxurious, elegantly decadent. Saying that, Sarwat balances the ornate pants with a light-as-air silk blouse, which is not overly prim, nor can it raise any eyebrows back home.
