We know what you’re thinking: this summer cannot and will not get cooler. But what if we told you there is a way you could flit through the season looking and feeling your best (you possibly can in the infernal heat)?
So, it should come as absolutely as no surprise that we spend a lot of time looking at and thinking about clothes and shoes and purses and knicks and knacks. And like all great scientists (please hear us out), we’ve become very, very good at spotting patterns when they crop up, however much in isolation. SS22’s highlight for us, triggered by something Fahad Hussayn said, is printed lawn. To quote him loosely, lawn doesn’t have to be just a shalwar kameez, pant kameez, kameez culottes – you get the drift. Just like you, it can be anything you want it to be!
That, and the fact that a lot of SS22 collection dresses from almost anywhere look like straight up lawn kameezes or belted lawn kameezes made us stop in our tracks and think about it. Tea-length dresses are actually rather pretty, and really quite modest, so you can legitimately get away with wearing them if you live anywhere remotely conservative, including our very own motherland. And if you still feel uncomfortable, almost all the styles we’ve come upon will support straight or flared pants as lowers.
Here are some labels we saw offering the trend this season:
Khaadi
This belted, cobalt dress looks, and hopefully feels, like a cloud. Plus, with that length and those sleeves, it’s perfect for anything from running errands to grabbing an early dinner with friends.
M&S
We’ve all worn this print in those colours at some point in our lives, so lets just be retro as well as on-trend and give something like this a whirl.
Alexander McQueen
And here is a literal cloud print on a dress if that’s what you fancy, but we’d just like to say, if McQueen is doing it, it is a trend you want to jump on ASAP.
Lulusar
Lulusar’s Manora collection has some super-summer-worthy pieces, including this dress. Wear it to the beach, to your bestie’s bridal shower, to work, or on date night. Because why not?
Fahad Hussayn
And coming full circle, Fahad Hussayn shows us exactly what to do with his lawn (or any lawn), and all we can say is, thank you!
