It looks like 2022 will be another strong year for Atif Aslam. We know he is appearing on Coke Studio 14, the premium music series in the country. While Coke Studio unveils episodes featuring Atif Aslam, the singer-songwriter and composer has another major gig with his television acting debut in Sang-e-Mah, for which he has received a lot of praise. And no surprises, YouTube views range in the millions. His work in the drama serial will be unlike Bol where he was simply lending his star power to boost interest in the film. Sang-e-Mah is the proper litmus test for Atif, and it looks like he is passing this test. Like many of his peers, apart from acting in the serial, the ‘Hona Tha Pyar’ singer has also sung the OST for the project.
Titled after the series, the single is radically different from songs Atif dropped in 2021. Keeping in mind the motif of the serial, the single is very much a dramatic song, a romantic, melancholic ballad which sounds grand because of Atif’s performance as the playback singer.
The song is backed by lyrics courtesy Fatima Najeeb and composition by Sahir Ali Bagga. The music video is more of a montage of the serial and you don’t see Atif Aslam in a performance setting, unlike his 2021 releases. While the episode has picked up millions in viewership, so has the OST, which is sung by Atif. It is actually a beautiful, dramatic song and has recall value - irrespective of what you think of the drama serial. Sang-e-Mah may be a test of Atif’s acting skills, but the song is clear proof that when it comes to singing (in any format), Atif can pull it off with great heart and skill.
