The White Lotus

The first season of HBO’s hit series, The White Lotus, created by Mike White was released earlier this year and stars Connie Britton, Murray Bartlett, Jennifer Coolidge and Steve Zahn in key roles. The story is based on the lives of a group of super wealthy people who are vacationing at a resort in Hawaii and the people who work there. The White Lotus brilliantly portrays the entitlement of the well-off white guests along with following the exploits of different employees over the span of one week. The show gradually divulges the realities of the apparently picture-perfect vacationers, jovial hotel employees, and the pleasant surroundings.

While you can enjoy the six episodes of this sharp satire set at an ornate Hawaiian resort, the good news is that there will be a season 2. According to Variety, HBO announced its second installment keeping in mind the popularity of season 1, which will take place at another White Lotus Hotel, and follow a different group of vacationers.

Dr. Death

The crime drama, Dr. Death, is an adaptation of the Wondery podcast of the same name. The Peacock original miniseries created by Patrick Macmanust was released in July and follows Dr. Christopher Duntsch’s career and malpractice. In the series Joshua Jackson plays the part of the Dallas-based neurosurgeon, who murdered multiple patients and permanently mutilated dozens more. Apart from Joshua Jackson, Dr. Death features Alec Baldwin, Christian Slater and AnnaSophia Robb in key roles.

Dr. Duntsch’s fellow surgeons Robert Henderson (Baldwin) and Randall Kirby (Slater) along with Dallas-area assistant district attorney Michelle Shughart (Robb) plan to bring down the neurosurgeon by collecting evidence against him and his brutality. This eight-part drama covers Duntsch’s criminal proceedings in 2016 and 2017. It showcases the medical misadventures of the neurosurgeon while depicting the systemic failures that not only enabled him but protected him as well.

Nine Perfect Strangers

The series, Nine Perfect Strangers, featuring Nicole Kidman, Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, Luke Evans and Michael Shannon among others, is based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name. The eight-part limited series that premiered on Hulu in August is created by David E Kelley of HBO’s popular series Big Little Lies. The plot revolves around nine anxious individuals who come together at a health and wellness resort that promises transformation, healing and a better way of living.

The enigmatic central figure and resort’s director Masha (essayed by Nicole Kidman), watches over them during the 10-day retreat and tries to refresh their tired bodies and minds. However, things take a turn when Masha’s methods become unconventional as well as extreme and the nine perfect strangers are clueless about what is going to happen next. Could these ten days at a health resort change them forever? Watch this mystery thriller to find out.

Heels

The wrestling drama, Heels from Loki creator Michael Waldron and showrunner Mike O’Malley premiered last month on Starz Network. The first season of the show is about a struggling wrestling league in a small town, Georgia. The eight-episode series features Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig as brothers and rivals. The former plays the character of Jack Spade, an antagonist or ‘heel’ inside the wrestling ring, while Ace essayed by Alexander Ludwig is the hero or ‘face’ in the ring.

The story revolves around a family-owned wrestling promotion, the Duffy Wrestling League, and how Jack and Ace war over their late father Tom‘s legacy. What is great about the show is that even if you are not aware of the wrestling terminologies, the dialogues clearly explain the concepts such as ‘kayfabe’, etc. If you are a wrestling fan, Heels is a must-watch as this compelling family drama shows how the two brothers struggle to keep the Duffy Wrestling League running despite having a strained relationship.

The Morning Show (season 2)

The highly-anticipated first season of The Morning Show premiered on Apple TV+ in November 2019. And the good news is that season two of the series is all set to return on September 17. Season one featured Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell in lead roles with the series dealing with the #MeToo aftermath and #TimesUp movement. In fact, the plot of The Morning Show (season 1), adapted from Brian Stelter’s 2013 nonfiction book, Top of the Morning, mirrored the 2017 scandal that rocked Matt Lauer and the entire Today show.

In its upcoming second season, the series co-produced by Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, will also feature Julianna Marguiles, who has The Good Wife and ER to her credit. With the teasers of the second season out, it is quite clear that Alex (Aniston) and Bradley (Witherspoon) are no longer the morning TV‘s dream team. The series will show the reason behind their split and if we go by the trailer it seems that Alex has been replaced by a new leading man, essayed by Hasan Minhaj. If you haven’t watched the first season of The Morning Show, go ahead and watch it now so that you can enjoy the upcoming season to the fullest.
