*Post Colonial Jurisprudence of South Asian Courts, a webinar on law, language and poetry, shall be held on August 23 and live-streamed on Facebook at 3pm.
The event is being organised by the Institute of Liberal Arts (ILA) at the University of Management and Technology (UMT). The speakers include Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, Salman Akram Raja, Hina Jilani, Dr Osama Siddique and Umer Gilani.
At the webinar, the speakers will explore the intriguing relationship between law, language and poetry, how poetry has found a place in some very important court judgments, especially those of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, and how important is it for legislative bodies and judges to have a firm grasp of the language in which they are operating — understanding the nuances of words, their contextual variations, and the multiplicity of meanings that they might carry.
