Here’s a lowdown on four ongoing drama serials that are ruling the ratings these days; incidentally, they’re all on GEO entertainment, which continues to maintain the number one slot
Most of the content created or curated for television is governed by ratings and those ratings come with a combination of popular casts, intriguing and entertaining while equally relatable storylines, and of course, high production value.
Family sagas, affairs, scandals and betrayal make for popular plotlines but spirituality also spins into interesting themes every now and then. There are formulas that work but then some production houses, like 7th Sky Entertainment, know how to take the formulas to the next level. Proof is in the pie; Geo Entertainment, maintaining its number one position in entertainment TV, has managed to consistently top the ratings chart.
Here’s a list of four drama serials that are currently on air and are leading the numbers game. You may want to catch up on them if you aren’t watching already…
Khuda Aur
Mohabbat 3
The ongoing third season of drama serial Khuda Aur Mohabbat has broken all records of viewership and has topped the ratings chart ever since it went on air. The intense love saga features a star-studded cast including Iqra Aziz, Feroze Khan, Junaid Khan, Tooba Siddiqui, Sunita Marshal among many others. Last week KAM 3 set a new record as its combined viewership crossed 1 billion on YouTube. And that’s not all! The OST of the drama series also crossed 100 million views on YouTube quite a while back.
Directed by Syed Wajahat Hussain and produced by Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi of 7th Sky Entertainment, Khuda Aur Mohabbat 3 is receiving rave reviews and a massive local and global audience for a number of reasons. There’s Iqra and Feroze’s great onscreen chemistry, the spiritual theme and the larger than life production, which spans across several cities.
Fitoor
Another drama serial that is leading ratings chart is Fitoor. Also produced under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment, the drama features Faysal Qureshi, Hiba Bukhari, Kiran Haq, and Wahaj Ali in key roles. The drama serial is based on the story of Haider and Dilnasheen, essayed by Faysal Qureshi and Hiba Bukhari, who get married but their past love lives seem to haunt their relationship.
Kiran Haq portrays the character of Mehmil, who is trying to win Haider’s love back by creating misunderstandings between the couple.
Wahaj Ali brilliantly essays the role of aggressive Hamza, who is madly in love with Dilnasheen. Written by Zanjabeel Asim and directed by Siraj ul Haq, Fitoor amasses views week after week and we know why. Everyone loves a solid love triangle (in this case a quadrangle) with some sensationalism thrown in for good measure. What else do you call the heroine finding out that she’s pregnant when she’s also on the brink of divorcing her husband to return to her first love?
Rang Mahal
Rang Mahal features Ali Ansari, Humayun Ashraf, Sehar Khan, and Fazila Qazi in prominent roles. Helmed by Zahid Mehmood and written by Shafia Khan, Rang Mahal highlights the issue of status difference. The story is based on emotions of love, heartbreak, and despair and revolves around Mahapara (Sehar Khan), who is the daughter of an employee (essayed by Rashid Farooqui) of Fazal Ali (Mohsin Gillani) and family.
After Mahapara’s mother passes away, Fazal’s wife (Fazila Qazi) raises her as member of the family. Since childhood, Mahapara is in love with Rayed, played by Ali Ansari, son of Fazal Ali. Initially, Rayed, who has returned from America to attend his elder brother’s wedding, sees Mahapara only as the daughter of his father’s secretary. But he slowly and gradually starts getting inclined towards her (obvious, right?). However, things take a nasty turn when Hajra (Arooba Mirza), the barri bahu of the Fazal family, tries to prove that Mahapara is of questionable character because she belongs to a lower-middle-class family. Hajra finally she succeeds in her plan. What the future holds in store for Mahpara and Rayed’s relationship, we’ll have to wait and see.
Dour
Ali Abbas and Hina Altaf starrer Dour, is another drama series that is ruling the numbers game these days. The ongoing drama is a story of love and betrayal. Apart from Hina and Abbas, Dour features Sania Saeed as an antagonist as well as Azfar Rehman who plays the role of a differently-abled person, who is perhaps faking his disability. Mrs Ehtisham, played by Sania Saeed, is a mysterious woman who’s responsible for killing Asma’s (Hina Altaf) father because he refused to marry off his daughter to her handicapped son Abaan (Azfar Rehman).
Asma and Rohan (Ali Abbas) fall in love with each other and want to tie the knot. However, Mrs Ehtisham tricks Rohan and tells him that Asma’s aunt (essayed by Iffat Omar) has requested Asma to marry Abaan instead. Rohan, a loving son, believes what he’s told and accepts it as his fate. Asma, on the other hand, gets to know about it and refuses to get married to Abaan on her wedding day. Things take an unexpected turn and Rohan and Asma get married. The next few episodes will reveal what Mrs. Ehtisham’s next move will be.
