These four athletes have surely made the entire nation proud for being a part of the 32nd edition of the Tokyo Olympics that commenced on July 23
Arshad Nadeem
Representing Pakistan in the javelin throw event at the Olympics, Arshad Nadeem has qualified for the finals after throwing the javelin as far as 85.16 metres. Nadeem made the cut for the Olympics after he hurled the spear at a distance of 86.29 metres during the 2019 South Asian Games and created a new South Asian record.
Mahoor Shahzad
Mahoor Shahzad represented the country at the games in badminton for the first time. However, she was eliminated from the Olympics after losing two matches. The Pakistani shuttler lost the first match to Akane Yamaguchi from Japan, while Britain’s Kirsty Gilmour defeated Mahoor in the second round.
Talha Talib
At the Tokyo Olympics, the 21-year-old Pakistani weightlifter Talha Talib stood fifth in the 67kg weightlifting contest, just falling two kgs short of making history and bagging the bronze medal. Talha lifted 170 kgs in clean and jerk and 150 kgs in snatch, accumulating a total of 320 kgs.
Najma Parveen
Pakistan’s best female sprinter Najma Parveen, shortlisted for the women’s 200-metre sprint, finished last, ending her Olympic journey. Najma, who holds the national record of Women’s 200m at 23.69 seconds, was 2.88 seconds behind the athlete who bagged the sixth position.
