Sunday evenings practically demand comfort food, and which food is more comforting in all its herby, spicy, cheesy warmth than pizza? If you’re in Karachi, you’re in luck and spoilt for choice!
All one needs to appreciate good food is enough sense to make sure there’s room to really eat when you’re settling down for comfort food, Netflix, and the quiet sense of despair that every Sunday evening brings with it.
The general Karachi bias dictates that we think Karachi has the all-best-everything when it comes to food – or really, anything else – and pizza is no different.
Karachi will offer you pizza from famous chains, cafes, fine dining restaurants and hole-in-the-wall operations. It won’t all be good, but everything is worth a try.
If you’re on a quest for some great pizza today, definitely give our list a skim and tuck in!
Xander’s
Xander’s hand-tossed, wood-fired crust is just the right fit for a certain kind of Karachi palate, and the choice of toppings ranges from familiar and safe to a little more exotic.
One of the things Xander’s scores on is the sauce: a lot of pizzas may pile on the meats and other toppings, but those sit atop a rather tasteless marinara. The tomato sauce on any Xander’s pizza is hardly ever a miss, and the pizza overall itself is baked just right, isn’t too greasy, and offers a great balance between flavors and textures.
Try: The Italian Meatball Pizza for times when you are starving, and feel every food craving you’ve ever had satisfied right away.
Pompei
In the mood for a thinner hand-tossed crust? Order in some Pompei pizza. With Pompei you always know what you’re getting, quality-wise. One of the restaurant’s prominent characteristics is how different flavors come together to create a really pleasing dish. No overpowering or competing tastes.
Try: Artichoke & Tomato Pizza for a really delicious, juicy pizza experience. The feta and tomatoes work their magic together most magnificently.
Pizza Hut
If you think there can be a list of locally-available pizzas minus the Hut, you’re sorely mistaken. We may write Pizza Hut off as dated and really kind of terrible, but the chain has a few redeeming qualities that we’ve forgotten about.
If pan pizza is what you’re after, this should be on your speed dial. Pizza Hut marinara is by far one of the best you will taste in Karachi, though quality may vary from area to area.
Try: Their classic Cheese Lover – extra cheese, extra sauce, eat it hot.
Dominos
Pizza Hut isn’t the only chain delivering good pizza, Dominos hand-tossed pizzas are actually rather good, and perfect for those late nights when in a group of five, no one can decide what to order. Just go with Dominos. Reasonable price points and deals mean you can order for more people without really breaking the bank, and the quality is quite decent. You may feel free to refer to this list as built by the sauce police – but the sauce is where Dominos loses points.
Try: The Double Melt. Cream cheese between glorious slices of thin crust pizza. Perfect midnight/ post-gaming snack.
Famous O’s
Famous O’s is famous for its New-York-style pizza, and high-quality ingredients. Plus, this is one of those places where you can get your pizza by the slice, so it’s the perfect spot for a quick bite or when you’re on the go. The slices are on the bigger side, so you can get away with just one, or a whole pie for more people.
Try: Famous O’s Bianca – a trio of cheeses that mix nicely with a kick of garlic.
