Call it bad timing. Only a few days ahead of the Eid ul Fitr, the government has announced an easing of the lockdown. Though it was primarily meant to address the woes of the daily wagers and some essential service providers, the city people who looked like they had long been ‘trapped’ indoors erupted in screams of joy and poured out into the streets. They doffed their facemasks, and donned a who-cares attitude, completely disregarding the other important part of the announcement — the SOPs regarding Covid-19 safety protocols. The bazaars instantaneously filled up with men and women who seemed to have no sense (left?) of how serious implications all this could have. The almost two months of practising social distancing had apparently not made a dent into old habits. Does anyone even remember their hygiene routine? Social distancing? Come again?
