With Coke Studio 13, the expectations were higher due to the presence of Rohail Hyatt who had confirmed to Instep then that he would have a role in the production
It was just last year when founding co-executive producer Rohail Hyatt returned to Coke Studio 12 after four years and having delivered six seasons. During season 12, the music producer managed to deliver some excellent folk songs and ghazals with some blunders.
With Coke Studio 13, the expectations were higher due to the presence of Rohail Hyatt who had confirmed to Instep then that he would have a role in the production. There was a belief that by season 13, he would work out the weak portions that made season 12 lacking in places.
However, according to a reliable source close to the production, who wishes to remain anonymous, Coke Studio 13 has been packed up for the year.
Even though pre-production work had begun earlier this year, due to Coke Studio being a massive production, the production has been packed up as the coronavirus continues to spread with no indication of slowing down. It is a difficult but the right decision.
The source, anonymously noted: “How can it possibly be happening?” putting an end to all rumours suggesting that the production would continue. “There’s no way we can risk anyone’s life for such a venture,” the source reiterated.
While we will miss a season of Coke Studio, it is good to see the production taking the right steps, particularly as the number of people infected with the virus continues to rise across the country. We will just have to wait to see if Mr. Hyatt will be back for another season post-coronavirus or will this omission for the year have long term consequences for the entire production as it stands.
