Model turned actor, Nabeel Zuberi talks to Instep about his health regime and what measures he has taken to stay safe during the current pandemic.
Nabeel Zuberi, these days playing a supporting role in drama serial Dilruba, kick started his career as a model in 2013 and almost three years later he made his acting debut with Anjum Shahzad’s film Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay. He later appeared in drama serial Yaqeen Ka Safar alongside Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Aly. However, Nabeel came into the limelight with the popular Ramazan special drama serials, Suno Chanda and its sequel Suno Chanda 2. He essayed the role of Sherry in the drama that bagged him a nomination in the Best Emerging Talent category at last year’s Lux Style Awards.
CInstep got in touch with Nabeel to learn how he manages to stay safe and in shape when everything is closed due to the lockdown and there is no access to gyms.
According to the model turned actor, he is very conscious about the food he consumes on a daily basis. “You can call me a health freak but I firmly believe in the theory that you are what you eat,” he said. “I make sure to avoid junk food and fizzy drinks as much as I can. That is most important, even if I’m skipping my workouts.”
Nabeel shared that he works out five days a week and that includes mostly weight training. On how he is managing to stay fit and active with gyms being closed, he revealed, “I have a home gym and my own equipment so it’s not a big issue for me. The exercises that I’m performing to stay in shape these days include weight training and cardio only. I plan to resume MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) after this lockdown.”
Talking about his eating habits and what nutrients dominate his diet, he shared that he takes three light meals a day, the heaviest being breakfast. “I try to maintain a high protein and low carbohydrate diet. Some important ingredients in my everyday meals are eggs, white oats, nuts, raw fruits and vegetables such as avocados and broccoli as well as red meat, chicken and brown rice.”
He continued, “My diet also includes fresh juices, but I don’t consume them on a regular basis and I avoid packaged juices as they are full of sugar and preservatives,” he said, adding that liquid intake is very important and one should have at least five liters of water during the day.
The actor and model informed that he is not shooting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Precautionary measures I am taking are pretty much the same as everyone - washing hands frequently, using hand sanitizers and most importantly avoiding physical contact. These days I’m practicing social distancing by staying home and spending time with myself.”
Nabeel also urged his fans to stay safe, clean and keep their hands sanitized. “Social distancing is perhaps the best cure. We can reduce the chances by following a healthy lifestyle. Try to make your immune system strong and your metabolism fast,” he stressed. “Make sure to work out every day and also try to sleep early. Never skip breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day. It is important to eat raw vegetables and fruits; moreover add whole grains and nuts to your diet.”
On whether he has made any changes in his diet now that he is home, Nabeel explained, “I’m following the same diet plan as I was before the lockdown. However, these days I have added more vitamins and fruits in my diet to boost my immune system.”
As the coronavirus pandemic continues to escalate, it is important to focus on your mental health. “If your mental health is not perfect, your physical health will definitely be disturbed because of it.” To stay away from stress Nabeel urges everyone to spend time with their families and friends and follow a healthy sleeping pattern. “Do what makes you happy, explore more about yourself, practice gratitude, read, exercise and watch your favourite shows,” he concluded.
