The 2020 Kabaddi World Cup recently concluded with Pakistan emerging as the World Champions. The world’s biggest Kabaddi tournament was eight-day long with matches held in Lahore, Faisalabad, Kartarpur and Nankana Sahib. This was the first time in the history of the tournament that a country other than India was awarded the hosting rights. Apart from India, teams from Iran, Canada, Australia, United States, Sierra Leone and Kenya took part in the event. Before the recent tournament, Pakistan was only the second most successful team after India in the sport, with four runners-up titles. However, that changed this year. Known for its immense popularity in India and Pakistan, kabaddi is the national sport of Bangladesh, where interestingly cricket and football are the more popular sports. After winning the kabaddi championship, the jubilant Pakistan team took a lap across the stadium as the crowd cheered them on, a sight that is sure to stay with kabaddi lovers in Pakistan for a long time to come.
