Instep talks to the actor to find out how he manages to stay in shape – and what motivates him – despite a busy schedule.
Having started his acting career with theatre almost a decade ago, Osama Tahir made his cinematic debut with Umer Adil’s directorial debut, Chalay Thay Saath (2017). The film featured Mansha Pasha, Syra Shahroz and Chinese actor Kent S. Leung in key roles, apart from Osama.
Later that year, Osama ventured into television with his play Dar Si Jati Hai Sila, directed by Kashif Nisar. Osama starred alongside Yumna Zaidi and veteran actor Noman Ijaz. Osama essayed the role of Raheel for which he bagged a nomination in the Best Emerging Talent category at the Lux Style Awards 2019. He has also starred in drama serials such as Belapur ki Dayan and Hania. Currently, the actor is appearing in two drama serials: Deewar e Shab and Ruswai.
To essay roles, actors are required to stay fit since they influence a lot of people and it is a job requirement since they often shoot for hours on end. Osama Tahir is well-aware of this truism.
In an effort to learn just how Osama juggles between his travel(s), his on-the-go lifestyle while staying in shape, Instep got in touch with the actor. He shares just how he maintains a healthy lifestyle, despite his busy work routine.
Excerpt from the conversation below…
According to Osama Tahir, he is very particular about what he consumes during the day. “The nutrients that dominate my diet include carbohydrates and protein. During the day I eat more carbohydrates (carbs) but at nighttime, there is zero to very little carbs in my diet. Apart from these, my diet includes different kinds of protein and veggies throughout the day,” he shares.
Talking about eating preferences, Osama Tahir shares that he prefers brown rice over white as well as lean protein than vegetables. “Usually I take around 4 meals per day. But these differ from body type to body type. You might need a different plan altogether,” adds Osama.
While many celebrities resort to juices and shakes for extra energy, the Ruswai actor doesn’t consume any kind of shakes.
The artist admits that he is not a health freak. But as far as his fitness goals are concerned, he wants to get a six pack. “But that is so unbelievably difficult that for now I’m only focusing on strength training. And for the sake of achieving that regular body weight training is where I am at the moment. Even though I am not gym-ing these days, I try to work out every day. I’m more into free weights so I work out with just dumbbells.”
He further adds that at times - when he is busy with work - it gets really tough to take out some time to exercise. “Days come, even weeks, when I simply don’t have the time to work out. But you have to make it work and you have to squeeze in the hour at the very least.”
Mental health and physical health go hand in hand and if you are not mentally healthy, then it might hinder you from achieving your full potential. The fact is that mental health is of utmost importance. According to Osama, it’s one of the reasons he works out on a regular basis. Your mental health actually helps you to stay fit, active and most importantly happy. “In fact, I firmly believe exercising is a great way to manage stress as well,” notes Osama.
In order to keep yourself motivated towards following a healthy lifestyle, Osama shares that knowing everything can be bad for you.
“However, to attain a healthy lifestyle, my only advice is to maintain a balance,” he concludes.
