Glam at the Globes

Breaking down the best fashion and beauty looks.

While we sputter and stutter our way through a bone-chilling cold spell, the film fraternity across the globe is kicking off award season. With the Golden Globes gracing our screens last weekend, our feed has been bombarded with glittering, glamorous ensembles worn by some of the best loved global stars. These looks don’t just forecast what’s haute for the year but also chart the beauty looks that will be deconstructed and emulated. Let’s dig into the fashion extravaganza and break-down some of the best sartorial and beauty moments of the night.

Jennifer Lopez in Valentino

Can we just take a moment and admire the fact that Jennifer Lopez is 50 years old? Jenny doesn’t look like she’s aged at all! Not only does she look fantastic at fifty, Lopez also has her style game locked. Looking like a Greek sculptor’s dream in her gold, white and green gown with a massive bow in the front that only the diva could pull off, Jen’s outfit was balanced with minimal but choice accessories. Her Harry Winston jewels were the perfect, glitzy compliment to her braided up-do, reminiscent simultaneously of Greek goddesses and Frieda Kahlo. Lopez also didn’t hold back with her make-up; her dramatic eyes and contoured face topped off with nude lipstick and glowing skin ensured that the Latina had all eyes on her walking down the red carpet.

Scarlett Johansson in Vera Wang

The Marvel and Marriage Story star was definitely one of the best dressed celebrities of the night. Her watermelon red mermaid gown with a sweetheart neckline might not have ground-breaking new in its silhouette but Johansson carried it with natural grace. This is an example of what happens when you style the right person in the right outfit – just because it’s simple doesn’t mean it can’t make a statement. Her slick hair, subtle, silvery eyes (to compliment her diamonds) and dusty rose lips are a testament to power of classic dressing. It’s not about trends or gimmicks but rather about knowing what works for you… and having a good stylist!

Zoe Kravitz in Saint Laurent

There isn’t much to say about Kravitz’s look – it does all the talking for us. Truly a head-turner, the Big Little Lies star had no notable bling except for studded earrings and an oversized ring, barely there makeup punctuated with a maroon pout and an uber chic pixie cut. She wore her monochrome, polka-dotted gown, styled with simple strappy heels and belted at the waist with a black sash, with steely, supermodel swagger. That’s all it takes sometimes, really.

Zoey Deutch in Fendi

Baby faced Deutch opted for a bold yellow custom jumpsuit with billowing sleeves gathered at the wrist and a plunging neckline. We loved the combination of a heart-stopping blue sapphire necklace and earrings with the bright, sunny shade. A slick, side parted bob and rosy makeup with softly smoked eyes completed the ensemble. If there’s anything to take away from these red carpet stars, it’s that slick, short hair is all the rage.

Lucy Boynton

The 25 year old actress and her trusty make-up artist, Jo Baker, are known for the most creative, envelope pushing red-carpet looks. While we weren’t fans for Boynton’s space blanket inspired Louis Vuitton outfit, we definitely loved her makeup look. Where most actors stick to glamourous looks that are safe for the red carpet, Boynton opted for some springtime silver sparkle. The festive, deco-doll look featured crystal embellished wings and cut crease liner. Spidery lashes, brushed out brows, softly contoured face and peach lips keep the look fresh. While it might be a little too glittery for every-day wear, we can imagine the look on a daring desi bride who isn’t afraid of beauty outside the box.

Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth’s look might be from the GG after party rather than the actual red carpet but it was too glorious to not share. Her Barbie pink gown worked really well with her pale complexion but Bosworth’s twisted ponytail-braid hybrid is what has us drooling. In keeping with the vibe this season, Bosworth’s hair was slick, tightly pulled back and then cascaded down her back in a golden rope. A coral lip, some pink shimmer and mascara on the eyes for definition and unique pearl earrings come together to create a stellar look for the star. Fun fact: Bosworth has one blue and one hazel/green eye due to heterochromia, a rare genetic mutation.
