At the recently held MTV Movie & TV Awards 2019, stars from both the movie and TV worlds came together to celebrate some of the best pop culture moments of the year.

Every year the awards’ red carpet brings some incredible looks and this year was no different. Hollywood’s A-list celebrities strutted down the red carpet in eye-catching ensembles and flaunted bold and colourful makeup choices.

While some stars opted for a subtle and polished aesthetic - think nude lipstick paired with sleek hair - others went up a notch and chose something a little more daring, like a bold eye shadow or exaggerated eyeliner.

From head-turning hairstyles to Instagrammable street style moments, to full-on fashion-forward fabulousness, here are some of our favorite red carpet looks from this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson turned heads on the red carpet in her dazzling blazer by Thom Browne. While the Men in Black: International and Thor: Ragnarok actress chose a glam eye makeup look, sporting brilliantly bold purple eye shadow, she kept the rest of her look nude and natural.

As far as her hairstyle was concerned, Tessa channeled retro vibes with her victory rolls, accompanied by voluminous, natural curls. According to hairstylist Lacy Redway, she wanted to play with retro hair but make it an updated version and also embrace texture in her hair.

Haley Lu Richardson

The Five Feet Apart star, Haley Lu Richardson, wore a black Prabal Gurung design on the red carpet. She tied her hair in a sleek low ponytail, leaving wispy strands in the front that accentuated her features. As for her eye makeup, she went with a dark green shade over her lids. Complete with a nude lipstick, her look was nothing less than fabulous.

Jada Pinkett Smith

Actor, host and activist Jada Pinkett Smith was one of the coolest celebs at the MTV Movie & TV Awards for more reasons than one. The Red Table Talk star, who was honoured with the Trailblazer Award, looked stunning in an all-silver sequined suit, which was totally festive yet chic. Jada rocked a sleek hairstyle, while she complemented her outfit with silver eye shadow, wispy eyelashes, and light pink lip gloss.

Jameela Jamil

The Good Place actress, Jameela Jamil went with a ‘70s inspired red carpet look for the awards night. She chose an ultra-cool, chain-accented black Balmain dress complete with a ruffled, tutu-like bottom. Jameela opted for a long, teased hair style, while her makeup was glamorous yet chic. She accentuated her eyes with thick, bright green graphic eyeliner that covered her lids and finished her look with green liner on her lower lashes, blushed cheeks and rosy pink lips. This was definitely one of the best beauty looks of the night.

Kiernan Shipka

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star made her first-ever appearance at the awards this year.  Kiernan Shipka, who made a major departure from her signature snowy blonde hair colour, and showed off a new copper shade at the 2019 Billboard Music Awards,  went for a sleek, blunt bob. She strutted down the red carpet wearing a vibrant head-to-toe Fendi look from the Roma Amor collection. As for her makeup, Kiernan kept things simple and opted for a luminous and dewy skin with graphic, black eyeliner and pink lips.
