The Cannes Film Festival is definitely one of the most fashion-forward events of the year; it’s when A-list celebrities pull together outstanding couture gowns for the festival, with hair and makeup to match. Though the annual event is France’s most highly acclaimed independent film festival, one can’t deny the fact that it also plays host to some of the biggest and best red carpet moments of the year.
One beauty lesson that we’ve learnt from the 72nd edition of Cannes Film Festival, which comes to an end this weekend, is that Hollywood glamour is making a serious comeback. Undeniable trends from this year are a classic red lip, sexy winged liner and smokey eyes. That may sound quite run-of-the-mill but the stars made sure it all came with a fresh perspective.
Check out some of our favourite hair and makeup looks…
Elle Fanning
The actress served up several looks as the youngest jury member of Cannes Film Festival. However, our favourite look is the one in which Elle Fanning chose to wear a floral print Valentino gown, looking ultra-feminine. Fanning’s go-to stylist, Jenda, created a dreamy crown braid accented with flowers. The actress’s hair mirrored her dreamy Valentino dress. As for her makeup, beauty artist Erin Ayanian Monroe kept it minimal and fresh to ensure her hair stood out.
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez made her Cannes debut this year and sizzled on the red carpet in a Louis Vuitton outfit. Makeup artist Hung Vanngo kept the actress and singer’s look glamorous yet classic. Vanngo paired Gomez’s vibrant red lip colour with thick, dramatically winged black eyeliner. Bold brows kept the look modern, while she topped off the look with plenty of highlighter. As for her hair, celebrity stylist Marissa Marino coiffured a twisted up-do that was smoothly pulled back into a pair of flawless knots.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka Chopra gave the regular cat eye a super stylish negative-space update. The actress and singer’s statement graphic eyeliner widened and defined her eyes without looking heavy because the precise flicks were not filled in at the outer corners. Makeup artist Morgane Martini created an open wing and opted for the perfect pinkish-purple lip colour to go with her gorgeous Roberto Cavalli gown. Topped off with deeply side-parted waves styled by Danielle Priano, Chopra’s look is truly one of the most memorable of this year’s festival.
Bella Hadid
The model went full princess in a soft, elegant pale pink Dior dress; Hadid kept her makeup to a minimum with glowing, bronzed skin. She wore shades of mauve on her lips, eyelids, and contouring blush. Though there was no eyeliner, Hadid’s eyes stood out thanks to the fluttery lashes. Bella Hadid’s up-do was slicked back on the sides and left soft and voluminous at the crown.
Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone arrived on the Cannes red carpet looking like a futuristic bride in a voluminous white and black custom made Peter Dundas gown. Her sculptural super high-pony and graphic black under-liner – along her lower lash line that was winged both outward and inward - made for an extremely eye-catching look.
Taylor Hill
For Taylor Hill’s look, makeup artist Hung Vanngo went with smokey brown eye makeup that added warmth to her complexion. The brown hue gave a summery vibe as compared to the traditional black liner. While the American model and Victoria’s Secret Angel looked stunning in smokey eyes and bronzed cheeks, it was her big, voluminous hair that caught every one’s attention.
