It’s been a really busy month for fashion, with the spotlight falling on film and TV stars every now and then. The equation between all mediums really has strengthened over the years, with designers picking and promoting muses from popular mediums rather than from the pool of models. Here are some of our favourite starry moments from the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week, held in Lahore last week.
Ahmed Ali Butt for Rici Melion
Menswear designer Rici Melion’s collection for the PSFW meant to raise awareness for men’s mental health and featured popular comic Ahmed Ali Butt as showstopper. Unclear on the choice of celebrity for this particular cause, it was of course great to see the fashion week platform celebrate an artist acknowledged and acclaimed for his talent rather than his looks. Ahmed is up for an LSA for Best Actor for his hilarious portrayal of a female event manager in JPNA2.
Zara Noor Abbas for Zasimo
This promises to be a big year for upcoming starlet Zara Noor Abbas. Daughter and niece of Asma Abbas and Bushra Ansari, respectively, Zara already has acting genes in her DNA but this is turning out to be a breakthrough year for her as she’s all set to appear in two feature films: Wajahat Rauf’s Chhalawa and Asim Raza’s Parey Hut Love. Zara has been vocal about the importance of women embracing their body size and we’re happy she set a great example at fashion week.
Mawra Hocane for Zaha by Khadijah Shah
Mawra Hocane shook a big and bold 80s’ lioness mane, looking every bit the wild thing, as she walked for Zaha’s collection of the same name. High energy and gorgeous yet humble and approachable, Mawra is actually one of Pakistan’s favourite stars, evident in her rising social media following. She’s scaling new heights of acclaim with Aliya, her character in Aangan. Caught in a love triangle with Chammi (Sajal Aly) and Jameel (Ahad Raza Mir), Mawra is holding her ground really well.
Sheheryar Munawar for Republic by Omar Farooq
Sheheryar Munawar, this fashion week, stepped into shoes once worn only by Fawad Khan who’s been muse to Republic for as long as we can remember. Now that Fawad is the face of his wife’s brand, Omar Farooq brought in Sheheryar Munawar and we’re really not complaining. Young, upcoming and good looking, Sheheryar has been in the spotlight, this year co-producing and featuring as protagonist in Asim Raza’s Parey Hut Love opposite Maya Ali. We’re looking forward to this, for more than one reason!
Hania Aamir for Nomi Ansari X Tuhura
Not everyone would have been comfortable slipping into lycra and stepping onto a brightly lit up runway, so hats off to Hania Aamir for not only walking in gym wear but making it look good too. Young and energetic, Hania is also making waves as the leading lady of TV drama Ana, in which she plays Daneen, a headstrong and rebellious young girl. Moreover, she’s also been very open about her relationship with Asim Azhar, even agreeing to walk for Zainab Chottani at FPW with him.
