This year’s PSFW Spring/Summer showcased three days of varied collections from different designers. While there were gorgeous collections with avant garde styles and silhouettes, one witnessed some truly outstanding beauty looks – particularly fresh, diversified hair inspiration for the season.
The fact is hair and beauty plays an integral part in fashion weeks all around the globe. Stylists and makeup experts make sure to scrutinize every look before it is presented on the ramps, season after season. This is exactly what acclaimed stylist Nabila and her team executed at the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week spring/summer 2019, held in Lahore last week.
Amongst the mixed assortment of showcases, there were a number of predominant hair trends including gorgeous braids and creative hairstyles. Here are our 5 favourites…
Gelled back, big hair
Hassan Sheheryar Yasin’s Rani was an all red collection and models looked ravishing in bold, smokey eyes with fiery red lips to complement the outfits. However, it was the gelled back hair that caught our attention. The slick back hair looked edgy with ultra-teased, messy hair left loose at the nape of the neck and secured with hair pins. Slicked back hair is certainly one of the biggest trends that we are witnessing this season and this version was definitely eye catching.
Power braids
Models sported a sleek, single and non chalant braid hairstyle with centre parting for Zara Shahjahan’s collection, Adab. The makeup was kept soft and dewy with rosy cheeks and light pink lips, while the no-fuss plaits were accessorised with elaborate jhoomars and teekas that definitely gave off a regal vibe. This is definitely a style that can be done at home, for every festive occasion through summer.
Go big, go voluminous
Another important hair trend spotted on the runway was the 80s-style big hair, coiffured by Nabila and her team for Zaha by Khadijah Shah. The makeup for the collection, titled Wild Thing, was funky with bright pink lips and water-coloured eyes. As far as the hairstyling was concerned, the phrase ‘bigger is better’ was taken quite literally. One saw voluminous ’80s-inspired curls that certainly complemented the collection.
Sleek low pony
Ponytails are a classic hairdo that anybody can pull off. It’s not only one of the simplest ways of styling hair, but look absolutely stunning if styled in a fashionable way. For Threads of Time by Chapter 2, models flaunted the sleek, silky ponytail with centre parting. The hair was gathered low at the nape and tied in a ponytail, pulling on the hair right above the elastic to soften up the style and give it a beautiful silhouette.
Edgy knotted plaits
Different styles of braids can sometimes take hours to achieve, but it is all worth the effort in the end. One saw a different take on braids as far as Fahad Hussayn’s collection, Suraiya Titanic, was concerned. The models came down the runway with their hair in a combination of Mohawk braid - high in the front - that ended in a knotted braid. This is one elegant and fun braided look that we won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
