A change in weather can bring on the urge to update our wardrobes and subsequently go for something trendy as far as our beauty regime is concerned. When it comes to your tresses, the advent of a new season can drive an overwhelming desire to have a dramatic chop, a fresh hue or even a change in styling technique.
Recently Toni&Guy Karachi presented Runway to Real Life Hair Show, a collection of latest trends in cut and colour, editorial fashion, and avant-garde styles, presented by Saeeda Mandviwalla - CEO Toni&Guy (South Pakistan). The show was all about vibrant colours, cuts, texture and reviving the 80s trends to present-day.
Here are eight of our favourite looks from the show and how they were achieved…
Avant-garde styles
A lot of thought and time went into creating the two avant-garde looks for the show. "We started with getting wire meshes and add-on accessories to create these looks," Saeeda shared.
She met models Zara Abid and Iqra Mehmood beforehand in order to observe their face shape, bone structure and overall look and see what she can do for the avant-garde pieces she had to create. "Real hair as well as add-on pieces were used to create these looks and it really is a labour of love that eventually turns into avant-garde," she said.
1. On-trend braided look
Iqra Mehmood‘s avant-garde look was inspired by braiding that is so on trend today. "We took it to another level and gave different braids around the curve of the head and used height in the centre to create different shapes to elongate the head shape like a futuristic style. We added diamantes to her face as part of her makeup."
2. Sultry glam
The look on Zara Abid was all about drama and style, so the feathers and the net that were used gave her the sultry glam drama queen look with exaggerated height. "Her makeup was also strong and then hair was wrapped on her face to create that strong avant-garde look."
Cut & colour
1. Crimson red
For model Bisha Abbas, techniques were used to release different tones in her natural hair colour. "We placed fiery red in sections underneath to achieve beautifully coloured luminous hair - giving it depth, strong colour, yet keeping the new natural look."
2. Pink colour revolution
This season, bright pink hues are ruling fashion runways. Hyra Muhammad’s hair was dyed in pink and looked absolutely stunning. According to Saeeda, the colour will give you an overall brighter appearance, leaving your hair vibrant with high shine.
3. Honey golden blonde
With Kiran Butt’s honey golden blonde, the hair expert brought back hair contouring by using a wider contour around the face with block colour. "Inspired by summer looks from the catwalk, the colour and styling was complemented with waves and curls."
Shorter haircut
Blunt bob with pins
Moving away from the bob and layered hair, which was so popular last year, a sharper, blunter finish above the shoulder is a key trend for 2019. "The bluntness of this haircut, sported by Elishba Shah, thickens your hair depending on the way it’s styled. It will also enhance your bone structure by adding hair accessories that are much needed in summer when the heat is extreme. This style allows you to put up your hair with high fashion pins and statement clips."
Editorial fashion hairstyle
Top-knot bun with scarf
Hair buns can be created in many ways. "Sana Rajput’s look was particularly exaggerated and back-combed to create height. The sides were loosely tonged to frame the face. For a cooler look, go for colourful scarves this summer."
