Summer is in its full glory at least in our part of world and this scorching weather is quite hard on our bodies and our moods. High-soaring temperatures can make you feel drained and tired, making it difficult for you to work. But don’t let the temperature get you down. You have to stay productive and keep your cool even if it feels like the sun is out to get you.
Here are some simple, no-sweat ways to cool off this summer.
Stay hydrated
Hydration during the warm months is crucial. When you’re sweating a lot, drinking enough liquid becomes even more important. Whenever your body heats up from physical activity or the hot weather outside, your internal air conditioner turns on and you begin to sweat. And remember, now that your air conditioner is using its coolant (your sweat), it is important to refill the tank -- by drinking lots of fluid, especially water, as it is much easier to keep refilling it.
Dodge the sun
There are certain times of day – before the sun rises and after it sets - which are relatively cooler hours. Try utilizing that time to run your errands, head out for a walk or water your plants. However, if possible, avoid staying directly under the sun for more than three hours. Also wear light colours and breathable fabrics such as cotton and linen, especially on those scorching days.
Breathe like a yogi
In summers, doing a few minutes of yogic breathing can lower your body temperature. Curl your tongue by pulling both sides upward toward the middle, then breathe in through your mouth. Hold your breath, and slowly exhale through your nose. Repeat five to 10 times. A few minutes of deep breathing and relaxation will go a long way.
Aloe Vera spray
You’re probably well aware of the fact that aloe vera naturally soothes sunburn, and its cooling properties also help in beating the heat. All you need to do is combine equal amounts of rose water and aloe vera juice in a spray bottle and shake well. Add some distilled water and spritz on the face or on the body, whenever you need to cool down. Besides you can make a cooling mist by combining one teaspoon of aloe vera, one cucumber, a squeeze of lemon, and one table spoon of rosewater. Put them in the blender for one minute. Strain the juice and pour the liquid in the bottle and spray over yourself.
Pulse points
Did you know that there are numerous pulse/pressure points on your body that can be used as cooling spots when in contact with cold water? Try running cool water or put a bottle with ice-cold water on points like your feet, wrists, and temples.
Cool as a cucumber
Keep a cucumber in your fridge and cut a couple of slices to soothe your eyes after a long summer day. It will not only reduce puffiness and dark circles around your eyes, but will also bring down the overall temperature of your body.
Go for smaller meals
The more you eat, the more heat your body produces. During the hot weather try consuming small meals throughout the day to limit the metabolic process that creates heat within.
Take more showers
When nothing seems to work, take frequent cool showers to keep your body temperature down. There’s nothing better than a cold shower in the midst of a sweltering summer day. It doesn’t have to be an epic water-wasting shower - just a quick rinse will do the trick.
