As the new year rolls around, the more sartorially savvy begin their hunt for statement sparkles. This year however, we’d like to push for some creativity with the sparkly statements and help transfer the attention on to your peepers and lips. Sequined ensembles cost a ton and one can only get a max one-two time usage out of them. Take inspiration from these New Year’s Eve trends to get a great bang for your buck and save some moolah when there’s already so much to spend on.
Colourful Lashes
A fun trend to try for New Year’s is coloured mascara, which is one that I’ve always been hesitant with (unless it’s blue). On the runways there’s been a lot of clumpy, colourful mascara coating top and bottom eyelashes in every shade from fire-engine red to lime green. The perfect shade for Pakistani skin tones, however, would be a colour between blue and green, which is bright enough to make a statement, but a little subtler than bright orange.
Glitter Guns
Perhaps the most obvious holiday beauty trend inspired by the runway is glitter, but rather than the standard sparkly eyeshadow, try using glitter sparsely for most effect. Glitter makeup can be tricky; one false step and you could end up looking like an eight-year-old at a unicorn-themed birthday party. The key is to not look like a shiny disco ball, but to keep it tasteful yet dramatic with the glitter. Pairing a glittery eye, or even a lip with a slicked-back high pony is a very wearable trend.
Bold Lips
As for lips, my main NYE inspiration this year comes from the ramp where models rocked the most vampy pouts. The lipsticks were bold and matte and definitely an elevated take on the traditional, borderline cherry-red holiday lip. Vivacious, statement lips are gaining momentum for 2019 and why not? A darker pout is a quick, stylish way to amp up a bare-faced look, especially when it’s cold out.
Smoky Eyes
Even though smoky eyes are hardly a trend, this New Year’s Eve we could forget perfecting a sharp, sleek, cat eye and going all-out smoky with a dramatic black eye look. Kohl liner was used on the runways to smoke out the look on both the lid as well as the lower lashline, for a sexy gothic panda mood that sounds bizarre, but looked incredible.
While we don’t recommend indulging in all these runway trends at the same time, all four of these looks are awesome options to step up your beauty game up for New Year’s Eve. Skip the sequined dress and use coloured lashes, some glitter, a bold lip, or a sooty eye to make a statement that’ll make you the life of the party!
