Flash Your Style! Fashion at the Emmys

The Emmys red carpet is usually conservative and well, boring, but we saw several prominent stars making several outstanding statements at the event. Besides the usual assembly of gowns and sharp suits, we had some nominees take a chance on their choice and prefer to make a statement with what they wore. Hello stars in Pakistan, do you not see any causes here that need to be addressed? We wish our celebrities would also, every now and then, get their heads out of their stars and sequins and make a statement on an issue that deserves the spotlight. Back to the Emmys…

Jenifer Lewis in Nike

Black-ish star Jenifer Lewis dressed down for the Emmys and wore Nike specifically to honor the brand for supporting Colin Kaepernick, the teamless NFL quarterback who kneeled during the national anthem to protest police brutality against black people. It’s a topic Black-ish wanted to cover but ABC scrapped the episode.

Tiffany Haddish

Deciding to make a fashion statement referring back to her roots, Tiffany Haddish paid homage to her late father’s Eritrean heritage at the show. It’s something Haddish has made a custom now; she wore a traditional Eritrean zuria to the Oscars earlier this year and her Emmys gown was rendered in the colors of the Eritrean flag.

Jessica Biehl and Justin Timberlake

This has to be our favourite couple of the moment and they didn’t make a statement (we confess) but we just love the way they look together. Jessica was flawless in a white gown from Ralph and Russo’s Fall 2018 Couture collection, while Justin wore a classic Tom Ford tux. Jessica may not have won the award for Best Actress in the Limited Series or TV Movie category for The Sinner, which she was nominated for, but she looked every bit a winner.

Ru Paul

The legendary drag queen, whose show was nominated for Outstanding Reality Competition Series, RuPaul’s Drag Race, walked down the red carpet with a fashion message sent via a white double-breasted suit by Calvin Klein. The suit was embellished with an Andy Warhol print of the Statue of Liberty and was picked up by orange Calvin shoes with Cuban heels.
