The music season, just like the monsoon, is upon us. With Coke Studio 11 and Pepsi Battle of the Bands 3 having taken center stage for the last few weeks, we can’t help but pick out some of the cool cats who won the fashion round.

 

Meesha Shafi and Mahmood Rahman

Meesha Shafi is inherently stylish and her personality tends to reflect in what she wears. Even though it is difficult to pick just one look of the singer-songwriter from Pepsi Battle of the Bands season three, where she is back as a judge for another year, we’re going with the look she sported in her tongue-in-cheek performance of ‘Koi Sarda Aye to Sare’.

As Meesha told Instep, she curated the wardrobe herself. The dhotis, T-shirts and accessories she picked from Yousaf Bashir Qureshi aka YBQ. Since the song had a desi-punk-meets-rock vibe, she brainstormed with designer Ali Xeeshan. In turn, Ali Xeeshan put her in touch with designer Fahad Hussayn, who made the boots and her hat. Ali Xeeshan, meanwhile, is responsible for her coat and the boy’s waistcoats as well. It was a collaboration and curation, a mixing of ideas which ultimately turned out quite well.

 

Natasha Baig

Singing alongside qawwali giants Fareed Ayaz and Abu Mohammad in something as strong as ‘Shikwa – Jawab-e-Shikwa’ is not something just any singer can deliver on but Natasha Baig certainly did. In the song, Natasha showcased an ethnic look that went well with the song. Natasha wore separates from Rangja; a printed lehenga and a black embellished kameez. The look was further accentuated with accessories such as rings, an ethnic kara as well as a neckpiece.

 

Ali Azmat

Coke Studio 11 brought back Ali Azmat and we love the vibrant Khaadi kurta and Levi’s jeans that he wore in his spectacular, collaborative performance with Abida Parveen in ‘Ghoom Charakhra’. The color orange was chosen due to the Sufi nature of the song. To add some oomph, the scarf and aviators were added, while making sure the casual and iconic Rockefeller was still himself.
