The Cannes Film Festival is undoubtedly one of the most dazzling red carpet events of the year. For ten days, one can expect to see look after look delivered by supermodels, actors, singers and A-list celebrities from the world over. It is a celebration for film as much as it is for fashion, with the finest looks for the various screenings and premiers that make up the glamourous affair.
Elsa Hosk
The Victoria’s Secret angel wore a blush silk gown by Alberta Ferretti that was very reminiscent of a certain Monroe look. Fans of classic film, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes will recall the iconic pink dress and hair and makeup that Monroe wore then. It had the same neckline, hairstyle as well as the diamonds Hosk accessorized with. We loved that a classic film was used as a reference, but tweaks were made to the look to keep it current.
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett, President jury at this year’s festival, turned heads in her Givenchy dress which faded into the carpet as she posed for photos. The rainbow-hemmed frock stood out in all the right ways and was a very flattering silhouette on Blanchett. Teamed with short hair that didn’t distract from the frills on the dress, this made for one of our favourite looks so far.
Sonam Kapoor
Sonam Kapoor has established herself as quite the fashionista so we were most excited about her looks at Cannes. In a Vera Vang dress with a long train, she managed to look extremely graceful and effortless. Sonam rounded off her look with a messy bun and makeup featuring yellow eyelids which added the right young vibe to the dramatic dress.
Kangana Ranaut
Ranaut is another one who has quickly become fashion’s favourite wild child. She looked resplendent in an ultra-glamorous hand-dyed, embellished Sabyasachi sari with hand-cut sequins, creating a metallic, yet fluid fabric. Giving off Audrey Hepburn vibes, her retro look was accessorized with a Sabyasachi batua and the ‘teenmaniya’ necklace.
Mahira Khan
In one of her many looks at the Cannes Film Festival, Mahira Khan wore London-based brand Solace and shoes by Christian Louboutin. She looked every bit the star against the backdrop of the French Riviera, with the wind blowing through her hair. She says that she wanted her looks to be extensions of how she dresses, of who she is. She nailed it.
