Kashmir and the world’s agenda

It is the moral obligation of the world to intervene and save Kashmiris from the Indian aggression

Kashmir and the world’s agenda

If we go back to the pages of history, it is evident that no force on this planet has ever succeeded in keeping a nation as slave for an indefinite time. The world has innumerable stories of merciless oppressions by the occupied forces as well as that of the untiring struggles of the nations for independence and freedom.

The present world scenario can be categorised into four factions: i.e., poor countries, semi-developing countries, developing countries and advanced countries. The response of each country to the issues of the present world is directly proportional to its economic and political priorities.

The last three to four decades of world history portray different breakdowns and disintegrations of states and rise and fall of various nations. The Yugoslavia led by Marshall Tito came to a breakdown and Croatia, Montenegro; Bosnia, etc, emerged as independent states.

When the Soviet Union was facing severe economic collapse it adversely affected its hold on the already annexed states of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, etc, and finally these states also emerged once again as independent countries. The same was the case with the Baltic States when Latvia, Litvania and Estonia also came out of the shackles of the Soviet Union.

If we analyse the phenomenon of freedom, it appears very crystal clear that some nations are lucky enough that they enjoy the gift of freedom without any bloody struggle. The United Kingdom, being the mother of democracy, put no bar on the referendum in Scotland and allowed the Scottish masses whether to have an independent state or wish to live in the UK.

The UK also very amicably resolved the issue of Hong Kong with China. When the people in Cyprus were having political and economic hardships, they were given the option to determine their own destiny and resultantly, Greek Cyprus and Turkish Cyprus emerged. When the people of East Timor were trying to have their rights, the United Nations very comfortably managed to arrange their right of determination.

The Indian occupied forces are killing the Kashmiris during their democratic protests on a daily basis and the graveyards in Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam, etc, have become saturated and no place in these graveyards are left for further burials of innocent Kashmiris.

At present, there are two nations in the world who are struggling hard for their right to freedom but the world has terribly failed to support their genuine right and identify their hardships perpetrated by the occupied forces. Palestinians and Kashmiris are struggling for the last 70 years to get rid of the ruthless occupation of Israel and India respectively.

The issue of Kashmir was left undecided during the partition of the subcontinent. India forcefully occupied the territory of Kashmir and since then the Kashmiris have rendered untiring and marvelous struggle for their right to self determination. The United Nation’s resolutions very explicitly stress upon plebiscite for the Kashmiri people but India is not honouring its own commitment made on the floor of United Nations.

Here one can rightly think about what happened to the world’s conscience? When six people of Charlie Hebdo are killed, heads of states and governments marched on the roads of Paris and condemned the attackers but in Kashmir for the last 70 years the whole valley is painted with the blood of innocent Kashmiris, but the world conscience is mysteriously silent.

The Indian occupied forces are killing the Kashmiris during their democratic protests on a daily basis and the graveyards in Pulwama, Shopian, Budgam, etc, have become saturated and no place in these graveyards are left for further burials of innocent Kashmiris.

If we look into the recent history of the subcontinent, All Indian National Congress and All India Muslim League struggled against the British Raj and then Pakistan and India came into existence. If Gandhi and Nehru were alive today, they hopefully might have thought over the issue of Kashmir judicially but the present Indian government, under the fascist and chauvinist mindset of Narindra Modi, has crossed all limits of brutal killings of the Kashmiri masses.

With this policy, the Indian government could not succeed in suppressing the aspirations of freedom fighters, rather this policy has triggered their determination for freedom and independence.

The indefinite curfew in different towns of the valley has crippled the normal daily life of the people and no one is taking care of the miseries of Kashmiri people. The schools and hospitals in Kashmir are occupied by the Indian forces and education and healthcare in the valley has come to a grinding halt.

Modi’s recent visit to Tel Aviv was to explore ways and means of how to overcome this indigenous struggle of Kashmiris. It is high time for the world community to take note of the Indian atrocities in the valley of Kashmir and persuade the Indian government to hold plebiscite in Kashmir. It is also the moral obligation of the United Nations to implement its resolutions on Kashmir in letter and spirit.

Since Kashmir is an unfinished agenda of the subcontinent, it is also the moral obligations of the British government to politically and diplomatically intervene. The British people are conscientious people and there was a gathering of more than one million, protesting against the American intervention in Iraq and because of this protest, President George Bush landed by helicopter at 10 Downing Street. The same degree of sensitivity may also be shown on the Kashmir issue.

It is high time for Pakistan to update foreign missions at Islamabad about the mischievous plans of India and direct its missions abroad to arrange seminars and lectures so that the real face of India is exposed. Peace is not only the need of Pakistan, but the whole planet.

Kashmiris are struggling for their legitimate rights and every individual belonging to any creed, caste or nation should voice for their rights in the best interest of humanity and peace in the region.
