The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards, often dubbed the "Oscars of fashion", took place in New York City this past week. The red carpet was swarming with celebs, industry insiders and the upper echelon of the high fashion community. The style stakes were high as expected and the attendees did not disappoint.
Gigi Hadid
Hadid was the polar opposite of her sister in this demure tonal look by The Row, the Olsen’s fashion label. She paired her white column dress row with a cream satin coat and a custom made pair of slides featuring Swarovski crystals. This was a completely different look for Gigi and miles apart from her usual outings. Thumbs up to her for being experimental!
Olivia Palermo
Palermo has this ability to mix high street and designer and make it look unique. That’s why she’s the numero uno choice of collaborator for brands and it’s this talent that makes her collections sell like hot cakes. To the CFDA Awards, she wore a dress from her latest collaboration with Banana Republic. The rust colored off shoulder ruffle dress paired with a Zara velvet clutch looks great.
Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra, wearing Michael Kors, wore a tea-length, long-sleeve gown that was belted at her waist with a patent leather oversized belt. She wore her hair slicked back, which paired well with her bold red lip and the neckline of the dress. We loved how simple and effective the look was. That said, we do feel there is too much being said about her red carpet looks and not enough about her work.
Kasia Struss
First it was Claire Danes at the Met Gala and now it’s Kasia Struss at the CDFA’s. This brand has been on our radar for a while for its reimagined designs that make you do a double take. This particular look is one of our favourites for its simplicity and unexpectedness (sequined dress with pants). Struss’ styling with a deep side parted low bun and dark eyes also has our heart.
