The best beauty looks so far and the trends they’ll inspire

Beauty Station! Going for the glamour

Award season is upon us with the Golden Globes and Filmfare Awards already concluded, before the circuit is rounded-up by the most prestigious of them all, the Oscars. Awards are great entertainment because they bring you the best of everything: fashion, beauty, red carpet glamour, celebrities, movies, music and much more. While the accolades are dear to those who receive them, we’re always a little more interested in the red carpet for the impact it has on our lives.

The award season red carpet is a not only a great trend guide when it comes to fashion but also for beauty. We can try decoding as many runway reports as we want but there’s nothing quite like seeing your favourite celebrity rock a new beauty trend and be inspired by it. Here’s our round-up of who and what you should be looking out for this year.

Diana Penty

Probably one of the only women in Hollywood and Bollywood combined to wear colour instead of opting for nude or smoky eyes, Penty is a winner for us for breaking out of the classic (read safe) red carpet beauty model and daring to be different. We love her shimmering teal eyes that compliment not only her complexion but the emeralds she’s wearing as accessories and her nude lip pulls the bold look together effortlessly.

Olivia Cuplo

There’s nothing more versatile than braids when it comes to hairstyling and even though they’ve been trending for a while on the runway, Cuplo’s braided up-do comes across as new and fresh. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s kept the look very slick; no fly aways, no tousled hair, just neatly pulled back and beautifully braided. The rest of her makeup is monochrome and her 90’s throwback liquid lip matches the taupe shadow on her lids, enhancing her chocolate brown eyes. Whether you’re looking for a fancy new style for a wedding or just feel like being glamourous, a braided up-do is the answer.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sinha is a woman of substance as she’s proven it time and time again, standing up for issues she believes in. But it isn’t her activism that’s landed her on this list; Sinha’s super sexy middle parted knotted bun at the Filmfare red carpet had us swooning. It’s an interesting new variation on a classic that instantly uplifted the whole ensemble and made her look chic and sartorially savant.

Emily Ratajkowski

Another woman who can never look bad, model Ratajkowski cements the monochrome makeup trend. Her makeup artist for the night, Hung Vanngo (someone we obsessively stalk on Instagram because he’s like a magician with makeup brushes instead of a magic wand) gave Rata (as the she’s known in the industry) an orange-y nude lip (for lack of ability to name the exact shade) and matching eyes. No overly defined eyebrows, heavy contouring or even bronzing required, yet Rata rocks the red carpet. Take note ladies, less can be more.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez can be quite over the top when it comes to her films and performances but we’re delighted that she chose a simple and relatively minimalist look for the Filmfare Awards. Dressed in a shimmery grey one-shoulder gown, she kept her hair and makeup clean and sleek. Jacqueline’s tame side sweep was perfectly complemented by her nude makeup enhanced by her signature winged eyeliner and pink lips. Worn with diamond jewellery, this look was perfect!
