The year is almost ending and winter is nearly upon us. Cool winds chasing away the summer heat herald not only the arrival of the festive season but also give us a chance to update our sartorial game. Are you ready to cosy up to the best fall trends to emerge this year? Our fall trend guide makes it easy for you to take runway reports and replicate them in real life. Let’s dig in!

Bejeweled tresses

Bejeweled chokers or earrings are so passe. Fall 2016 is all about ornate hair accessories that look and make you feel like royalty. You can opt for simple bejeweled beret clips that can easily be DIY-ed at home or invest in hair accessories that are proliferating the market locally and internationally. Check out Zohra Rehman or Rema Luxe in Pakistan for bespoke options or go to asos.com for more budget friendly items that are delivered to your doorstep.

Viva la velvet

Anyone who grew up in the 90’s remembers that velvet and moonlight material were fabric du jour but somewhere in the early 2000’s these two popular textiles were dethroned and replaced by a plethora of new trends. But if runways are anything to go by this season, velvet is back with a bang. This plush fabric not only looks and feels luxurious but is perhaps the most winter appropriate with its insulating properties. You can add velvet accents to an ensemble for a subtle approach or go all out in matching separates.

Take me to tinsel town

Metallics have been making their presence felt in sartorial circles since the last year or two and the trend is nowhere near abating. In fact, if anything, the metallic trend just received an even funkier update with designers opting to jazz up its treatment by using it in ensembles as tinseled fringes. Planning to get invest in a fringed piece this season? Just make sure it’s shiny! In what appears to be a modern day ode to cowboys, David Bowie and the Studio 54 disco era, tinsels should be your groovy go-to this season.

Don’t ruffle my feathers

While this is probably the most difficult to carry off trend to hit the runway this season, it’s ruffles galore for 2016. Whether it’s a at the hem of your dress or sleeves or starting near your bodice and covering the ensemble in layers, ruffles have permeated every designer collection and can be found in bridal couture and western street style wear. You want to go easy on the trend though because it can very quickly look tacky and has a tendency to not flatter those who haven’t been blessed with tall, svelte model figures.
