Beauty lessons from New York Fashion Week
Instep Desk
Recent beauty trends have largely revolved around the ‘more is less’ mantra, with women piling on layers and layers of foundation, donning dark eye-shadows paired with big voluminous hair with lots of backcombing and hairspray. While such dramatic looks actually don’t suit everyone, it is also quite unhealthy for your skin and hair if you treat it with so many products all the time. Thankfully, New York Fashion Week is changing all that for us, and while the trends will take time till they slowly trickle down all the way here in Pakistan, we should get up to speed with them for the sake of our natural beauty.
Wash-and-go Hair
The wash-and-go technique was a hot favourite for many of the biggest designers at NYFW. For instance, Michael Kors instructed the models to wash their hair the night before and let them naturally dry while they slept. Proenza Schouler’s models depended on the scorching sunlight outside the show to dry their hair naturally. Of course, if your mane goes too wild after a wash, you can always calm it down by applying a smidgen of hair serum in damp hair and running your fingers through them. This trend will definitely be welcomed by anyone who is tired of having fuzzy hair from all the styling and straightening.Strobing
Thanks to fashion designers such as Brandon Maxwell, Rodarte and Bibhu Mohapatra, we can finally say goodbye to the complicated art of contouring. Contouring had gone to a whole new level, with ‘clown contouring’ actually becoming a thing. But strobing is the new go to for what your skin should look like. Using a highlighter is fuss-free and easier than contouring. Also, it gives you a more fresh and youthful glow. The best way to achieve this look is by applying a highlighter on your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose and the Cupid’s bow to create the perfect highlight.Eye Gloss
While the occasion dictates the style, we are hoping these glossy eyes become the new smoky eye. Dion Lee and Altuzarra perfected this look by using shades of orange and pink, lightly applying a smudge of colour on the lids. Again it’s absolutely fuss-free, can be mastered by anyone and is a new quirky trend that everyone should try out.Matte Lips
We have been fans of matte lips since their inception so it’s absolutely thrilling to see matte finish being on the forefront at NYFW, with many designers recreating their own versions of how to rock a matte lip. DKNY went for darker shades while Jason Wu used a florescent and tangy red to add drama. However, it was Thom Browne’s neon blue lip that grabbed our attention. For a fun night out, one can try using neon matte lips in the shades of orange, blue or deep purple to make things interesting. Or, you can wear the classic red as matte and go for old school Hollywood glam.
