A photo feature on the annual ritual observed at the River Ravi
People float paper boats in the Ravi River as ritualistic offerings to the 11th century Persian saint Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jillani. The ritual is observed as a gesture of gratitude when they are blessed with the boy child.
It is believed that the saint rescued an almost sunken boat that was carrying a wedding procession. The devotees, who descend on the river front every year around this time as per the Islamic calendar, also distribute free food (or ‘langar’)wholeheartedly.
