Letters to Mehreen Jabbar

Worked in: Coke Kahani

"I had a great time working with Mehreen. She is the kind of director who doesn’t believe in over-the-top acting and that is also what I am comfortable with. She believes in a subtle, natural performance and hence, it was easier for me to connect with her school of thought. For now, I am really excited to watch her upcoming film and what she brings on the table."

"Mehreen as a person is very shy of showing emotion and that sort of translates into her work in the sense that there aren’t any overtly emotional acts. She is a natural and that’s what I love about her. She has taught me to be an immaculate actress and it’s been a wonderful experience working with her. I can’t wait to watch her film."

"The first thing that shines through about Mehreen when you meet her is that she is a story teller and really has a pure heart and her work is a testimony to that. She is a desi, wrapped in a gora, wrapped in a desi! I’m sure the whole cast and crew will tell you this that she is also one of those people that one can never say no to. I would jump blindly into any battle for her!

We’ve known each other for a long time and finally got to work together on Jackson Heights. We share a love for good TV and are cinephiles so I guess the seeds for this film had already been planted when we met then.  Mehreen is an effortless captain of the ship, she doesn’t lose her cool and she really knows how to put together a great team. Working on this film has been pure pleasure. Much like Mehreen herself. It has great aesthetic sensibility, lovely music, the subtlety of life, humour, love and friendship. Working with her is like family. There’s a lot more to come from Mehreen and I hope to be a part of all of it."

Nimra Bucha

Worked in: Daam

"I have never worked with anyone like Mehreen. She combines hard-headed professionalism with the acute perception of a portrait painter. You know she’ll always get the temperature of the scene right and won’t waste a nanosecond doing it. As an actor you’re in very, very good hands because what comes out on screen is always greater than the parts."

"Working with Mehreen Jabbar has always been a treat. She is very thorough and clear about what she wants. Her characters always have a back story and depth to them. She knows how to cultivate a connection between the audience and the characters. Mehreen’s stories are different every time and yet always manage to engage us in a new narrative about a woman’s role in society."
