There’s one thing that makes fashion so mesmerizing: unpredictability. Be it international powerhouse brands or our very own local ensemble of designers, the best always strives to be different and unique. That said men’s fashion has a penchant for staying monotonous and predictable. We see the same colours, silhouettes and styles being repeated one fashion show after another, all too much!
International trendsetters are a little more experimental. Donatella Versace is most eye catching this simmer as she travels to the Subcontinent for inspiration for the Versace summer/spring 2016 collection. The result? Elongated South-Asian inspired kameezes, silk headscarves, organic cloth and beautiful tunics! One can easily call it an Eastern couture treat that is so en vogue.
While the Italian couture powerhouse maybe in the news for mixing eastern and western fashion on the runways of Europe, some of our very own Pakistani designers have already proven that when it comes to uniquely designed clothes for men, they are a force to be reckoned with.
Instep explores three couturiers in Pakistan that have showcased truly unpredictable pleasures on the ramp.
Amir Adnan
After seeing the same styles in sherwanis and kurtas, one was pleasantly surprised to see veteran designer Amir Adnan push creative boundaries and presenting some game changing trends. If Amir Adnan’s collection at the Telenor Fashion Pakistan Week 2015 is anything to go by, one can expect earthy shades and jewel tones to be all the rage. Of course, mix that up with Western style cuts and Eastern tunics, and a truly attention-grabbing outfit is what you have in front of you! Plus, who can ever get over that jewel-encrusted tie that is so royal and ethnic?
HSY
Leave it to Hassan Sheheryar Yasin to come up with the quirkiest yet most dapper and unique looking outfits for men! While his showcase at the TFPW this year focused more on casual-chic western outfits, the collection at Telenor Bridal Couture Week 2015 was oh-so ethnic, replete with intricate embroideries and deep tones. Truly the piece de la résistance remained the Spanish Matador-esque inspired black sherwani, which seemed like a perfect ode to Eastern cuts and Western novelty. Who wouldn’t like such a beautifully designed collection to be a part of their wardrobe!
YBQ
What do you get when one’s collection is deeply inspired by the roots of Sufi culture and styles found in soulfulness? An exquisitely unique assortment of clothes that absolutely stun! YBQ’s collection at the TPFW 15 did just that. From those tall turbans to the long tunics, the whole collection screamed ‘look at me, I am not like you.’ Plus, who can forget HSY as the showstopper, in a debonair ‘east-west-meets-Sufi’ avatar? It may not have been a practical collection but then the best, most creative ideas seldom are.
