Red carpets this season were all about the quirky and the unconventional, from book cover clutches to statement ear cuffs, from popping neckpieces to hopping-mad footgear. The red carpet had its whacky moments but what really caught our eye was ear-candy! Instep scouts this season’s best adornments that ranged from minimalist to simply outrageous.
Afghan-Bazaar
There was a time when a trip to Islamabad was incomplete without the pilgrimage to the Afghan Bazaar in Kohsaar Market. There was also a time when a trip to Karachi was incomplete without a trek through Itwaar Bazaar. Now, with the unfortunate closure of both, we’re left at odds for where to buy our staple of chunky silver Afghan jewellery. Because thanks to designers like Iman Ahmed at the Body Focus Museum, Afghan jewellery is all the rage this summer, especially when paired with white clothes. Stock up!
Pret a printed jewellery
Prints were a highlight at fashion week this season and apart from clothes and bags, they even found a spot on jewellery lines; Print Therapy’s earrings range for Zara Shahjahan’s New Vintage collection was quick to catch our attention. Floral, English prints in pastels moulded in gold-plated silver in various shapes and forms and accentuated with colourful gemstones and classic pearls - how’s this for pearls of wisdom? Intriguing, you bet!
Gold Glamour
Natasha Kamal put out some eye catching geometrical trends in her collection, reflected in her choice of triangular, beaten-gold earrings in the show. Simple, contemporary and very modern, we loved these statements for the clean and minimalist statement they made.
Diamonds, always and forever
A girl never needs a reason for indulging in diamonds but Sherezad Rahomtoola’s fine range of ear candy left us with more than one. Set in white gold, keeping them so appropriate for summer, the collection that complemented Sanam Chaudhri’s fashion week showing showed us the best in stone-set fine jewellery. We got a recap at the Nomi Ansari-L’Oreal brunch, where the troupe of models all wore Sherezad’s jewels in full glory.
