abyasachi’s latest runway collection came across as an extravagant tribute to fashion, overflowing with maximalism and nostalgia, yet infused with a touch of modernity that might even bring a smile to the face of the most serious fashion critic. After six months filled with hard work and creativity, this collection pays tribute to the incredible women who have influenced his life—grandmothers, Coco Chanel, Frida Kahlo, Jackie O., and even Madonna (yes, the ‘Material Girl’ herself, because who wouldn’t want to embrace a touch of that bold, trailblazing spirit?).

The event, which celebrated Sabyasachi’s much-anticipated return to the runway, felt like a romantic tribute to his muses, with a guest list that could easily belong in a Vogue editorial. Bollywood stars such as Rani Mukerji and Alia Bhatt took prime seats, while newlyweds Siddharth and Aditi Rao Hydari were “literally” adorned in his couture, as if he were the fairy godfather of Indian bridal fashion.

Naturally, everyone was dressed in black—because Sabyasachi’s rules are not mere suggestions; they embody a lifestyle.

The models were like characters in a film, gliding through the space as if they were in their own cinematic scene. Deepika Padukone opened the show in a striking all-black ensemble that practically shouted, “This is how you make an entrance.” She later returned for the finale alongside Christy Turlington, who wore an outfit so understated it felt almost daring—an oversized sweater and baggy pants, yet adorned with enough jewels to make Elizabeth Taylor envious.

Embroidered jackets were styled with oversized shirts and trousers so dramatic they could have come right out of a ‘90s music video.

As for the men, they sported tailored trousers, velvet pants, and eye-catching embroidered jackets, complemented by sleek ties and bold jewelry.

The accessories really took the spotlight. They weren’t just afterthoughts; they were the main feature of the show. Oversized glasses, colorful floral headbands, and fashionable neck scarves—at times, it felt like a vintage store had been draped over the models, yet somehow, everything blended beautifully.

Maximalism at its peak. Sabyasachi aimed to create anything but a “safe” collection; this was a bold proclamation that said, “Don’t just step into the room—own it.” Despite the lavishness and scale of the show, Sabyasachi seemed almost indifferent to the expectations.

He chuckled at the idea that many were anticipating a bridal collection, while also stressing his brand’s international growth, particularly in jewelry and accessories.

“I’m enjoying myself. I’m happy about it all,” he remarked, and somehow, you found yourself believing him—because when you’ve perfected the craft of couture like he has, why wouldn’t you?
