Women commandeer suits and look better

It seems that Hollywood male actors may need to step up their suit game, as A-list female actors have been donning suits to promote their films—and they’re looking spectacular.

Angelina Jolie promoting Maria

A multitude of stars attended the 68th BFI London Film Festival to showcase their films, but some managed to outshine both their movies and their peers with their wardrobe choices.

Angelina Jolie is a prime example, who was at the festival promoting Maria, a biopic about Maria Callas, directed by Pablo Larraín. In the film, Jolie takes on the titular role, which has already stirred Oscar buzz. However, the spotlight seemed to shift from the film to Jolie herself, largely due to her striking ensemble. She wore a Dolce & Gabbana three-piece suit: a black blazer, a partially unbuttoned waistcoat that revealed one of her tattoos, and a glimpse of midriff. Paired with slim black trousers and square-toe heeled boots, her look was an undeniable showstopper.

Jolie accessorized with large gold statement earrings from Buccellati and adorned her neck with diamond-embellished pendants featuring intricate engraved designs. Her entire outfit went viral, and suddenly, all anyone could talk about was her wardrobe. As Jolie made her rounds at various film festivals to promote Maria, she departed from her usual old Hollywood glamour and opted for this dramatic change in style. Yet, she isn’t the only star embracing suits as a bold choice for film promotions.

Cate Blanchett promoting Borderlands

Cate Blanchett is no stranger to wearing suits, but she’s never one to shy away from pushing boundaries with daring colors, unusual fabrics, or even playful details—like attaching spoons to her outfit.

Blanchett has been busy promoting several projects, with Disclaimer taking the lead, but she has also found time to promote the whacky, sci-fi adventure Borderlands.

At a recent event for Borderlands, Blanchett rocked a white shirt underneath a black blazer, paired with Meryll Rogge’s black pleated wool twill tuxedo trousers. She accessorized with a striking checkered belt and opted for green, black, and white Diadora sneakers, either as a nod to the film or simply as an extension of her unique fashion sense. The blend of classic tailoring with quirky, experimental elements resulted in a striking look, and we’re fully on board with it.

Kate Winslet promoting Lee

Kate Winslet, now serving as producer for her new film Lee, in which she also plays the titular role, has similarly embraced suits as part of her promotional wardrobe. While in Australia, she was seen wearing an oversized blazer with a black top underneath, and she completed the look with black heels, layered bracelets, and gold earrings. It was a flawless display of power dressing, exuding both authority and sophistication as she promoted the biopic about famed photographer Lee Miller.

Zoe Saldana

Ahead of her Screen Talk session during the 68th BFI London Film Festival at BFI Southbank earlier this month, Zoe Zaldana opted for a Saint Laurent suit that embodied a sleek, business-chic vibe. Her outfit seemed perfectly aligned with the tone of the panel discussion she was part of. However, we couldn’t help but notice that her pants would have benefited from being hemmed slightly. Regardless, Zoe Saldana still managed to pull off the look with her characteristic confidence.
