Among its many-splendoured cultural icons, Lahore is known for puppetry and puppet-art famously patronised by the Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop, especially Saadaan and Faizaan Peerzada. They not only mastered the art but also propagated it rather well — they built Pakistan’s first-of-its-kind Puppetry Museum on Raiwind Road, besides organising colourful puppet festivals which not only attracted hordes of locals but were also of great interest to the foreigners. Over time, the festival became RPTW’s flagship project, next only to their World Performing Arts Festival. Both were mega annual events, traditionally held at Alhamra Cultural Complex. Their most recent event was, thus, an anomaly as it was arranged at Lahore Fort’s Dewan-i-Aam.
