uring the month of Ramazan, there is a significant amount of time when those who are fasting (as well as those who are not) will find lazy hours to fill. This doesn’t detract from spiritual activities and prayers.

The reason is simple: there is a massive shift in timings for everyone. If you can’t hibernate like a bear in winter, and let’s assume that not everyone can, free hours can feel longer than they actually are.

When the sacred hour arrives and allows you to break your fast, it also means the opening of shops, restaurants, cinemas and your favorite coffee house or tea-shop for business. And you won’t be buying anything on an empty, growling stomach or finding yourself in a foul mood while shopping, eating, or dealing with traffic.

And so, here is a quick analysis on what you should watch in this era of streaming, which offers thousands of hours of content.

Manhunt

If you’re looking for historical, political fiction, look no further than Manhunt. This particular miniseries is about the search for John Wilkes Booth after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The 16th president of the United States, who came to power in March of 1861 and died in April of 1865, is often considered the most revered politician in American history because he abolished slavery in 1863. But Manhunt is unlike other fictional works about Abe Lincoln, such as the Steven Spielberg film, Lincoln, which featured Daniel Day-Lewis in the titular role. While the Spielberg film primarily focused on Lincoln during his presidency, Manhunt deviates by focusing on the hunt for Lincoln’s assassin and the impact it had on the country. Manhunt depicts a hunt set over the course of 12 days, led by Secretary of War Edwin Stanton.

The role is portrayed by the excellent Tobias Menzies, who appeared in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix’s limited series, The Crown, in which he played the role of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. For his performance in the two seasons of The Crown, he won a Primetime Emmy in a supporting category as well as several nominations. Manhunt gives Menzies a much more substantial role and room to perform, and he is brilliant in what is a very complex and demanding role.

Corruption

Politics is never about one thing. A significant part of it, is what a candidate, politician, lawmaker will say and the optics of any point of view, speech, or quote will play out with the public, conveyed by the media. To that end, Corruption, a dramatic look at Rupert Murdoch’s News of The World phone hacking scandal that led to the closure of one newspaper and was detrimental to his entire media empire, is an exciting production. While this scandal isn’t exactly history, the production has all the elements to keep one interested.
