aisal Qureshi is set to rock the screen with not one, but two films – Mango Jatt, a hilarious Punjabi comedy by Abu Aliha, and Deemak, a spine-chilling Canadian-Pakistani horror flick directed by Rafay Rashdi. But wait, there’s more. After flexing those boxing muscles as Lyari’s tough cookie in Daadal this year, Sonia Hussain is flipping the script and joining forces with Faisal Qureshi in Deemak next year.

In an exclusive conversation with Geo Digital, director Rafay Rashdi, spilling the beans, said, Deemak isn’t your run-of-the-mill horror film. It’s a wild ride based on a true story penned by Ayesha Muzaffar.

Picture this: a family gets caught up in the wildest, weirdest events thanks to a mysterious creature. Intrigued? Well, here’s the kicker – you’ve got to play the waiting game until the movie drops to untangle the crazy connection between this family and the creature. Rashdi’s turned us into suspense junkies.

Rashdi also mentioned that teaming up with Faisal Qureshi has been a dream since his Badshah Begum days.

“When Faisal laid eyes on the script, he was all ears, hungry for the details on his role. I dished out the goods, describing his character as the ultimate family defender – you know, the hero vibes straight out of our favorite Hollywood horror films. And here’s the plot twist – when Faisal caught a glimpse of the VFX of the mysterious creature conjured up by the Canadian team, he was all in, ready to dive headfirst into making the film.”

Hussain liked the script too, and she came on board and is playing Faysal’s wife.

“I grew up watching horror movies.”

It’s not your typical horror film, though. Qureshi made it clear—it’s a family thing. And get this, it’s meant for the kiddos to enjoy while getting a bit spooked. He

reminisced about his own childhood watching Evil Dead, acknowledging that feeling of being scared but loving it. So, yeah, looks like it’s a family-friendly scarefest in the making!

Chatting with Geo Digital, Faisal Qureshi shared some details too. Qureshi called it the most different horror film ever made in Pakistan. He dished on his character, a head-of-the-house dude who’s not buying into the whole paranormal scene.

Hussain, meanwhile, is taking a plunge into the horror world, and it’s her first time. Talking to Geo Digital, she shared her love for scary movies with the family. But here’s the twist – she’s not just a spectator; she’s a true believer in lurking mysterious creatures.

“I’ve always had this itch to do a horror film, but the scene in Pakistan was kind of low-key on the spooky side. When Rashdi shared the script, I couldn’t resist it. The script had me hooked, I myself am very scared of ghosts and heard that when you talk about them, they come to say hello,” she chuckled.

“There is no item number and no gore in the story, but I can tell you that this time you will see the jinns,” Rashdi told Geo Digital.

Legendary actor, Samina Peerzada is playing the role of Faisal’s mother, while the cast also features heavyweights like Javed Sheikh, Bushra Ansari, and Saman Ansari. Deemak is set to be released in 2024.
