Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fitr are national holidays, automatically making them prime time for a significant drop of content for consumers.
It is also a long tradition that has existed even before Pakistan had its own satellite channels.
The content varies. It might mean a number of offerings such as new telefilms, special talk shows featuring celebrities in either a live format, or prerecorded ones that are aired during those Eid days. It might mean the television premiere of a film, often depending on which media house it is connected to. The ones not connected to a particular name might find space online if not on television.
The point is Eid-ul-Azha and Eid-ul-Fitr have had a longstanding tradition of special programming.
With OTT platforms that bypass cable and satellite to deliver content directly to a consumer using an internet connection, the choices have become broader and more.
A debate on foreign platforms is another matter but in terms of local names, SeePrime, the three-year-old OTT platform makes content available on its YouTube page. Not restricted to superstars only, See Prime is a space where emerging and established artists can experiment and create content that might not be screened in traditional format due to arbitrary laws.
For this Eid-ul-Azha, SeePrime has revealed the name of its feature film, Teri Meri Kahaniyan, which is a combined effort including some of the most prominent names from television and cinema.
Said Vasay Chaudhry in a statement, “Teri Meri Kahaniyan is a collaboration of many world-views coming together as one.
You have Khalil-ur-Rahman Qamar, Nadeem Baig, Nabeel Qureshi, Marina Khan, all working on one project. This is history in the making.”
Is it somewhat disconcerting to see Mr. Khalil-ur-Rahman working alongside other respected names in the industry because of his outlook on certain actors and offensive remarks in the past? Yes, but has that ever stopped anyone from continuing working in the entertainment industry at large? Hardly.
“It’s about the stories that bring us together, which fits our case as you’re seeing some of the most celebrated Pakistani names unite under one banner, SeePrime, to create something that they all love.”
The names of cast members for the film are scheduled to release later this month. However, so far, it looks like a vehicle of combined talent and what the collective vision of the country’s most prominent directors including Nabeel Qureshi (Actor in Law, Na Maloom Afraad 1 and 2, Load Wedding, Khel Khel Mein and Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad), and Nadeem Baig (London Nahi Jaunga, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani, Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2, Punjab Nahi Jaungi) can look like.
Joining them as director will be actor-director Marina Khan, who will make her feature film debut as a director having directed projects such as Tum Hi Tou Ho, Annie Ki Ayegi Baraat, Tanhaiyan Naye Silsilay among others.
Storytellers will also include Laal Kabootar’s Ali Abbas Naqvi and Basit Naqvi as well as Khalil-ur-Rahman Qamar and Vasay Chaudhry.
Speaking about the project, Marina Khan expressed her views in a statement. “It’s about the stories that bring us together, which fits our case as you’re seeing some of the most cele-brated Pakistani names unite under one banner, SeePrime, to create something that they all love.”
Echoing a similar viewpoint, Nadeem Baig said in a statement, “There is nothing like this project in Pakistani cinema. It’s something far beyond your average movie.
The public is in for a very novel experience.”
Nabeel Qureshi further added: “I doubt anyone was expecting this. When you combine the vision of so many creatives, you’re left with something truly unexpected.”
In the past, SeePrime has worked with actors as prominent as Mahira Khan, Sheheryar Munawar, Bushra Ansari, Faisal Qureshi, in addition to emerging names.
Will this effort, quite possibly SeePrime’s most ambitious one yet, beguile viewers? A great deal is dependent on who will feature in the film as leading cast members as well as supporting ones.
– Keep watching this space for more on the project.
– Marina Khan, who will be making her feature film debut as a director with
