A trailer and a poster

Films can be typecast and it can take away the mystery. But, not, always. Introduced as an “action” or “comedy” film doesn’t do justice to the trailer of Money Back Guarantee, an upcoming film written by actor and comedian Faisal Qureshi, who is also starring in the film as well as directing it. It is his debut film direction project. And if you’ve seen his work, you will observe (by watching the trailer) that his penchant for comedy is reflective in the trailer.

If the purpose of a trailer is to gain a fan who will invest time in the film whenever it releases, thankfully Money Back Guarantee’s trailer does just that.

And while we have seen better posters of cinematic projects such as Laal Kabootar, Kamli, Cake, Zindagi Tamasha and The Legend of Maula Jatt, we will not discount the poster of Money Back Guarantee completely because of how it places the variety of actors who are starring in the film to a dramatically different looking leading star of the ensemble, Fawad Khan, after his look in the smash hit, The Legend of Maula Jatt (2022).

As for the trailer, it doesn’t give away the plot and neither did any of the cast members at the Lahore event. Art is subjective. Each of us will take away different things from the trailer. What is obvious is that there will be a strong comedic element to the film, going by the trailer.

What was good to see is that the Lahore trailer and poster launch event of MBG also drew others from the industry who came to lend support. Among them were a bundle of industry names including Bilal Lashari, Ahsan Rahim, Ammara Hikmat and fashion designer Munib Nawaz.

The cast comes out

Scheduled to release in April 2023, Money Back Guarantee has the biggest cast you can think of in terms of well-established actors and some icons.

Apart from superstar-actor Fawad Khan, the film includes Javed Sheikh, Hina Dilpazir, Ali Safina, Shayan Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Hajra Yamin, Ayesha Omar, Faysal Quraishi, and Jan Rambo. It also features Kiran Malik, Aqdas Waseem, Mani, Shafaat Ali, Marhoom Ahmad Bilal, Adnan Jaffar, and Ataullah Khan in supporting and cameo roles.

Shot in Karachi and Thailand, MBG will also see acting debut of former cricket star and commentator and coach Wasim Akram and his wife “the social worker and activist Shaniera Akram”.

It was a spaceship of stars that had descended to the ground for this event. Fawad Khan was accompanied by his wife and designer Sadaf Fawad Khan. Writer, actor and debutant director Faisal Qureshi was present as were many others from the film such as Shayan Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Ayesha Omar, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Mani, Aqdas Waseem and Marhoom Ahmad Bilal.
