Many celebrities have been making offbeat fashion choices lately. Here are some of the most curious ensembles we have seen in the last few weeks.
Anna Sueangam-iam
At first look it may seem like a conventional silver evening gown but look more closely and you’ll see that Miss Thailand Anna Sueangam-iam’s outfit for the Miss Universe preliminary competition is made almost entirely of soda can tabs! Dubbed the “hidden precious diamond dress”, the upcycled gown was designed by the Thai label Manirat and created from used aluminum can pull-tabs combined with Swarovski crystals.
The beauty queen said the dress was inspired by “the familiar surroundings of her childhood”. “Growing up with garbage collector parents, my life as a child was among piles of garbage and recyclables,” she wrote on Instagram. “This unique gown was purposefully tailor-made with discarded and recycled materials, namely the ‘can tab’, to present to the universe that what’s considered worthless by many actually possesses its own value and beauty.”
We are all for positive expressions of self-worth and we approve of that message.
Doja Cat
One of the most talked-about looks at this year’s Paris Fashion Week came courtesy of one Doja Cat. The singer appeared at the Schiaparelli Haute Couture show covered in over 30,000 hand-applied ruby red Swarovski Crystals and red body paint and glitter, an all-red appearance that took 4 hours and 58 minutes to create. It may not seem like the most practical or comfortable look, but it was clearly designed to turn heads and turn heads it did!
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner showed up to the aforementioned Schiaparelli couture show during Paris Fashion Week wearing a black Schiaparelli gown with a rather peculiar embellishment: a lifelike, life-size lion’s head! Don’t worry, it wasn’t real. It was all foam and wool and silk faux fur. The label made it clear that no animals were harmed in the making of this outfit, which is good. But we are still not on board with the whole “decapitated head of a vulnerable animal” look, so, yeah, that’s gonna be a no from us, dawg.
Justin Bieber
Ever had one of those mornings when you just didn’t want to get out of bed and wished you could spend the entire day wrapped in a blanket? That’s the vibe we are getting from Justin Bieber’s colourful, oversized ensemble that he donned one fine January day while visiting a mall with his wife.
Huge crocheted blanket? Check. Baggy patchwork Drew House pants that not only seem cozy but could easily double as a makeshift pillow in a nap-related emergency? Check.
Who cares if the look won’t land him on any best-dressed lists. He seems like he’s super comfy, and sometimes that’s all that matters.
