Sharon Stone
Gap/Vera Wang
Fortunately for the Gap, Sharon Stone had wardrobe mishaps often enough for her to turn to a Gap basic right before an Oscars appearance. Once, the ‘90s very famous-slash-infamous actor had her dress material behave erratically and her backup dress get run over by a truck, and had to wear a Gap turtleneck under a jacket. At another Oscar red carpet, Stone paired a white Gap button-down with a metallic Vera Wang skirt, cementing the white shirt as a fashion staple, to be dressed up or down according to event.
Lucy Liu
Versace
If you’re looking for very glam inspo, this is where you stop. What screams ‘fancy’ louder than red sequins, and ‘fashion’ better than a well-cut silhouette.
Of all red carpet outfits, we have somehow never clocked Liu’s 2000 ensemble, which is the perfect statement piece, both understated and attention-grabbing. It is simple, but not really. This dress is everything, and we need to find a dupe, ASAP.
Mahira Khan
Feeha Jamshed
While Mahira’s 2021 LSA outfit by Feeha Jamshed drew a lot of shade
(see what we did there), we must look back to 2013 when Mahira wore this
powder-blue, fitted dress by Feeha. Whenever the actor wears this particular
designer, it always feels like the entire look was pre-planned, and with this dress, the very simple dress is set off by an ornate, traditional choker.
The lesson here is obvio: accessories matter; sometimes you can build the
outfit around the accessory instead of the other way.
