fter being mired in controversy over lack of Black representation, facing boycott, and then taking corrective action, the Golden Globe Awards returned to our screens after a year of televised absence. The 80th iteration of the award show was held this Tuesday at The Beverly Hilton in California, with Jerrod Carmichael serving as the ceremony’s host.

The evening belonged to Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans and Martin McDonagh’s tragicomedy The Banshees of Inisherin which were deemed among the best big screen offerings of last year. In the small screen categories, the fantasy drama House of the Dragon, mockumentary sitcom Abbott Elementary, and anthology series The White Lotus received the most prestigious honours.

As always, the star-studded ceremony saw celebrities donning some stunning attires, with no shortage of red carpet glamour. Here are some of our favourite looks from the event.

Jenna Ortega

On a high following the massive success of Netflix’s supernatural comedy horror series Wednesday, Jenna Ortega swapped gothcore for classic glamour and wowed in a pleated beige Gucci dress with a long, flowing train, accessorizing the outfit with a gorgeous Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace.

Hannah Bagshawe

A dramatic backless gown made Hannah Bagshawe look like the belle of the ball even though she was only at the ceremony to support her husband, Eddie Redmayne. She accessorized the black Valentino attire with minimal jewellery – a recurring trend of the night – and let the voluminous outfit take centre stage.

Monica Barbaro

Top Gun: Maverick actress Monica Barbaro channelled Old Hollywood in a red strapless Dolce & Gabbana frock. It might not have been the most adventurous look of the night, but the stunning tulle outfit looked lovely on Barbaro and guaranteed to turn heads.

Angela Bassett

The ageless Angela Bassett went with a timeless sparkly dress. She wore a sleek silver gown by Pamella Roland as she took home her second Golden Globe – her first came in 1994 for her portrayal of Tina Turner in the biographical What’s Love Got to Do With It – and made history for her Black Panther: Wakanda Forever win, earning the first major acting award ever for a Marvel movie.
