I was left dumbfounded after listening to Milli Yakjehti Council head Professor Ibrahim Khan in a talk show a couple of days ago that he had petitioned the president to forgive Mumtaz Qadri, the convicted murderer of Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer. Prof Ibrahim also admitted that the demand was first made from the platform of the Milli Yakjehti Council at Mansoora, the JI headquarters.
When pressed by the host whether pardoning Mumtaz Qadri was his personal opinion or the opinion of the Jamaat-e-Islami as well, Prof Ibrahim said that when this demand was made, both JI Amir Sirajul Haq and secretary Liaquat Baloch were present at the meeting. This seems to be the real mindset of not only the Jamaat-e-Islami but also of the majority of our religio-political parties. One wonders what the government is planning to do about this kind of mindset.
