There is absolutely no doubt that Metro is a boon for the commuters of the twin cities. The Punjab government has completed a Herculean task in least time. You just talk to commuters and they will give lie to the detractors of the project.
But there are some grey areas. Traffic between Chandni Chowk and the final point in Saddar has become more clogged than before. Situation is worst around Mareer Bridge. It would be no exaggeration to say that at times you have to spend around an hour to move on.
I am at a loss to know who gave the priceless idea of doing away the signal at Moti Mahal Chowk. The eighth wonder of the world, the bizarre underpass to facilitate those from Tipu Road to Raja Bazaar. What about those coming from Saddar and want to head to Sir Syed Chowk? The wagons that traveled from Railway Station to Islamabad and other localities in between have been left at the mercy of taxi and rickshaw drivers who unashamedly demand hefty fare which few can afford.
I am afraid much imagination was not used while planning the roads in this congested area.
The solution is very simple. Give a signal to Moti Mahal Chowk and the trick will be done. The present bottlenecks will definitely expand. This would provide big relief to the common man.
