‘NAB is committed to eradicating corruption’

MULTAN: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said the NAB is committed to eradicating corruption without any discrimination.
He said this during his visit to the NAB Multan Regional Bureau along with his Inspection & Monitoring Team here on Wednesday. NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Ch said the NAB was established as a apex anti-corruption organisation in 1999, which was assigned duty to eliminate corruption and recover looted money. The NAB operates under the National Accountability Ordinance 1999, which also includes FATA and Gilgit-Baltistan, he added. The NAB chairman said the NAB Multan Regional Bureau was recently established to play its due role in eradication of corruption. He told the NAB Multan received 1,438 complaints in 2015, which were process according to the law. The NAB Multan, out of 124 complaints, had completed 87 complaints verification while out of 61 inquiries, 43 had been completed whereas out of 32 investigations, 23 investigations had been finalised, he informed. During 2015, he continued, the NAB Multan had arrested seven people in corruption cases while 16 corruption references had been filed during 2015. He said the NAB Multan recovered Rs 21.13 million in 2015. The annual inspection was conducted from Feb 15 to Feb 17, 2016, to review and evaluate the performance of the NAB Multan Bureau based on newly introduced Partly Quantified Grading System (PQGS), he added. He told the NAB Inspection and Monitoring Team chairman graded the NAB Multan performance 97pc under the Operational Efficiency Index (OEI), which was evaluated under the PQGS. Later, senior officer of the NAB gave briefing to the NAB chairman on the annual inspection conducted by the CI&MT and highlighted the strengths and weaknesses of the NAB Multan Regional Bureau. The NAB officer said the PQGS was made in 2014 and under this system performance of all the NAB regional bureaus was reviewed in Jan and Feb of 2015 at uniform criteria. He informed that 80pc marks would be considered outstanding/excellent, between 60pc to 79pc would be considered as very good, between 40pc to 49pc would be considered as good while marks less than 40pc would be considered as below average. The NAB chairman directed the CI&MT to conduct annual 2015 inspection of all the NAB regional bureaus so that their performance could be reviewed. The annual inspection of the NAB Multan was carried out from Feb 15 to Feb 17, 2016. In the end, the CI&MT gave presentation about the performance of the NAB Multan of the year 2015.
