Government College University, Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah Wednesday called upon the students to study Punjabi literature for their spiritual elevation, saying that “you may learn English for earning a better livelihood, but you must also study Punjabi literature especially poetry for your spiritual elevation.”
Addressing the concluding ceremony of Punjabi Mushaira organised by the university’s Punjabi Majlis, the vice-chancellor said that the world’s best mystic literature was available in Punjabi, and noted Punjabi classical poets could be juxtaposed with the best poets of the international languages. He also said that Punjabi poetry was also a true reflection of our folk wisdom.
Prof Shah said Punjabi is an international language spoken in several countries and connects millions of people.
