LAHORE

Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has criticised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for giving warning to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), saying in such situation transparent and impartial accountability cannot be expected.

In a statement on Wednesday, Sirajul Haq said parties in power were trying to protect their leaders and workers. He said obstructing the NAB to work freely and placing restrictions on constitutional organisations was tantamount to obstructing supremacy of the constitution and law.

Sirajul Haq said the main complaint the nation had from the National Accountability Bureau  was that it was proceeding on the basis of liking and disliking, and not in accordance with the constitution and law.

He said small people were hauled up easily while files of the big plunderers who had swallowed trillions had not been touched for years. Besides, he said, those who had plundered billions of the public money were given a clean chit after paying off paltry amounts.

He said in view of this state of affairs, JI had decided to launch a countrywide campaign against corruption.

He said JI campaign was not against any individual but aimed at improving the working of institutions. He appealed to all patriotic and law abiding people to unite against corruption and dishonest practices to save future of the country and the institutions.

Meanwhile, in another statement, Sirajul Haq condemned the harassment of the family of Dr Aafia Siddiqi by unidentified men who raided the house after midnight and tortured the watchman.

Siraj said rulers had badly failed to bring back the daughter of nation who was sentenced to unjustified sentence by questionable US court.
