Doctors, paramedics to protest against Essential Services Act: PMA

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) on Tuesday expressed concerns over the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's decision of declaring health as an essential service in all medical teaching institutions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday after a meeting, the PMA strongly condemned  the decision and urged for an immediate withdrawal of this act, warning that, otherwise, doctors all over the country will be forced to come out in protest.

“This move by the coalition government of PTI and Jamaat-e-Islami has not just created a sense of anger among doctors in KP, but all over the country,” read the statement.

The meeting was attended by PMA Centre President Dr Aziz Ahmed Lehri, Dr Ashraf Nizami and Dr Talha Sherwani via video link from Quetta, Lahore and Larkana, respectively.

In Karachi, Secretary General Centre PMA Dr Mirza Ali Azhar, Dr Qaisar Sajjad, Dr Tipu Sultan, Dr Shaukat Malik, Dr Ahmed Bhimani, Dr Naseer Baloch, Dr Hamid Manzoor, Dr Abdul Ghafoor Shoro, Dr Usman Ghani, Dr Najum Feroz Mehmudi also participated in the meeting.
